Tank Cars - How Do I Know If They're Loaded Or Empty?

Unread postby FHRob » Thu Jul 02, 2015 10:06 pm

How do I know if a freight car is loaded or unloaded? I deleted tank cars which were marked as "loaded" in their description, and instead used tank cars from Sherman Hill. The Sherman Hill cars don't seem to be obviously marked as loaded or empty.

Thanks,

While in the editor, double click a car. A window pops up with a little icon of the rolling stock and has a check box next to it. If the box is checked the car is loaded, if not it is empty. All this is in the manuals.

A lot of the rolling stock is unmarked in the description. A general rule of thumb is that if there is no description and if it's a tankcar, or, a boxcar with its doors closed, then it's empty. Obviously, you can see if a TOFC, wellcar, Centrebeam or flatcar is loaded or, not, as soon as you place it on the track, and to load anything, is as Bob states, by clicking on the item, or, if you have a lot of cars in your consist, you can load them all at the same time, by highlighting everything and then clicking and ticking the box.

If you can be more specific, would be much appreciated. Are we talking about scenario editor here, and which manual are you referring to?

Thanks,

OK - thanks. *!!thnx!!*

It appears to me the Donner Pass 16,000 gallon tank cars are empty, and there's no way to fill them. Am I correct here? !*hp*!

You should be able to fill the Donner tank cars. When you are done making or editing your train use the select consist button to click on and select the entire train, engines and all.
Then when the right flyout appears, use the loading check box.

There is a bug in the editor that will show a consist you are editing as having a green check in the loading box, but if you have touched the train in any way, it will actually be unloaded.
So... anytime you edit a consist and wish it to be loaded, make sure to uncheck the loaded box (even if it appears to already be checked) and re-check it to make sure, just before saving the scenario.
And don't forget to load the whole train at once not one car at a time.

That's fine if a completely loaded train is wanted, but that's not always the case. Making up an AI or Quick Drive trains that include both full and empty cars is sometimes desirable, as well. At least I find it so.
