Will Marketplace locomotives work independently?

Unread postby OpenRailer90 » Mon Mar 09, 2015 7:17 pm

Since Marketplace locomotives have their own installation directory, will they be able to work independently from/without its acquired DLC? For example: CSX ES44AC directory is ES44Pack01_CSX or something similar as I do not own any of them. If the standalone BNSF ES44DC is required than does the CSX ES44AC alias any items from the BNSF ES44DC standalone, although it states it is required?

No, the dependent DLC is required. For example, I bought both the CSX SD70MAC and the CSX GEVO. I can use the SD70, but I can't use the GEVO because I haven't bought that DLC yet (I forgot about it during the 50% off sale...)

I'm not sure if it's listed in Marketplace display, but you can look at the Steam listing and see the following in the description

Using the CSX SD70MAC Add-on Livery as an example

'*NOTE* This pack is available in the in-game store under the Marketplace tab. You are strongly recommended to find the product there and make your purchase from within the game. In order to be able to use this add-on livery product, you MUST first own the SD70 V2 Volume 2 Loco Add-on.'

Thank you for explaining. Non-US users who want the BNSF GEVO are at a disadvantage though. Since you don't have the BNSF GEVO will loading the CSX GEVO result in not loading properly or crashing?

It just won't appear. You may be able to buy the BNSF loco off GMG though. This made me kind of interested, if the bin of the csx loco is just aliasing things of the BNSF pack couldn't one who accidentally bought it without the BNSF pack alias the bin to another es44dc like the Stevens pass loco because they are the same model?

I highly doubt some files like the bin files for the loco are copied. I am unsure about aliasing the files to the Marias Pass version I already own. But I do some of the CSX-specific features like the flashing ditch lights and the steerable trucks. Interesting it appears all the marketplace items are packaged in an .ap files as they all are released in 2014.

The Repaints in Marketplace rely on the DRM protection (the .sbn file) in the main "parent" loco's folder, so trying to use the Repaint without the "parent" won't work, nor will trying to alias the Repaint to another version.
