Routes containing Payware

It would be really good if Route creators included a statement of requirements, in the "more details"
section on the downloads page, that are not included in their downloads,
that way you do not need to download a file before you discover it needs other content.

Yeah I know, I have to post those files with no info, sometimes I do not even know how to describe them. That's all up to the route author and repaint and sound file authors.

Yes, I know, I really hate routes that use nothing but payware, especially if they don't tell you what you'll need.
Now, I can understand using one or two payware routes, but there's a point when it becomes little good when someone wants to use nothing but payware, despite the freeware assets available for the sim.
Makes us freeware scenery developers seem and feel useless and mostly unneeded.
I'd like to see a freeware route that would use mostly all freeware assets so all of us would be able to enjoy it without needed a box full of payware routes.

Jon if you have been paying attention at all you would know that the original NERW route is all freeware, the RWA route while needing a donation for the continuation of our website here needs no additional payware assets. The new Lafayette route will be all freeware assets.

Yes, and that's one I'm waiting on, what I meant is there are very few actual freeware routes, since most require a box full of payware.
It wouldn't be as bad if they didn't use as much payware, such as one or two payware routes wouldn't be real bad.
And at some point, I do want to get the RWA route, it's defiantly on my bucket list.

Unfortunately, at the moment I'm without a job and car, so until I can get a new job, and get the car fixed so I can find one, I can't afford to buy anything.


When I started to look for a job, car picked that moment to break down.


Waiting on tax season so we can fix it and be able to buy the part we need to get the thing running again.



But yes, when I get the money, I do want to be able to get the route, as well as the Virtual New Haven as well.

Why don't we just make it a requirement, i.e. In order for your Route to be posted you must provide all of the Required Pay Ware Information?

Mainly because the world doesn't need more rules. It just needs more good suggestions and a bit of common sense. We will add this to the guidelines for uploading and hope most bother to read them.

Sounds good, I think routes should be required to have a detailed readme in order to be uploaded, like everything else.


It should state in detail what all payware and freeware one must already have before installing it, so one will know what to look for.

As Buzz says, it takes some common sense on the authors part as well as the customer. You have to also take the time to peruse the "Read Me First". If I get a route or scenario, and I have to do a lot of research and scrambling to "have fun", I usually shy away from that particular author in the future.

IMHO!

When a developer is in the process of selecting objects to install on his route, he is more interested in getting just the right object on the site than what it costs. In my case, all assets are mixed in the asset folders. I have not excluded any of the payware or shareware, and have not identified those files that are pay or share. I suspect that most users handle the assets folders the same. Unfortunately, the object identification system doesn't lend itself to effective object selection. The system as it is generally lists objects by the developer, then the object name and then additional adjectives that describe the object. There is no indication as to whether it is pay,share or free.

Maybe all that it takes to separate the PW and SW from the Freeware is an additional set of folders under the Assets Folder. One for Payware/Shareware and one for Freeware. A program change by the Train Simulator software engineers should be able to set up the program so that there is an indication to the price of the object when you make the selections to be included in the Assets folders.
