Transferring Brake Scripts

Unread postby JohnTrainHead » Wed Oct 29, 2014 2:43 pm

I recently bought the NS Coal District and CSX SD80MAC, and I don't like the braking physics on the locomotives, so I'd like to replace them with the more realistic brakes from the ES44AC included with Canadian Mountain Passes. By "realistic" I mean that the train isn't thrown into emergency with a 30% application. *!rolleyes!* !*not-ok*!

What file(s) do I need to copy from the CMP GEVO to both the NS ES44AC and CSX SD80MAC?

*!!thnx!!*

I haven't seen anything with the new style brakes, because I don't own the new NS or Stevens Pass, but the brake settings are in the Engine's "Simulation" folder. There may be more than one engine's bin in there as well, if the folder before the bins is named "Default". Some routes have for instance "SD40T-2.bin" and "SD40T-2ND.bin" for instance.
Try finding the bin in question and renaming or backing it up to protect it, then copy and paste the similar bin from whatever DLC you like the brakes.
It might draw up the engine from the wrong DLC.

Hi,

I doubt that transferring the "new style" (scripted) brake settings from one locomotive to another is even possible. With the recent rolling stock addons (as far as I know: Canadian Mountain Passes, NY-NH, latest NS stuff), relevant brake data now exists in the simulation blueprints, the engine blueprints, and most importantly the LUA scripts. Which are locked as .out files, and can't be edited by the end user. It's highly likely that the scripts contain references to the specific loco for which they were written, which is why I think they can't be ported to another engine without having access to the original LUA code.

For older add-ons that don't use scripted braking, manual file hacking should work. However, please note that the engine blueprint file also contains some brake parameters like the setup of the notches.

Cheers

@JohnTrainHead: so you can't just copy files over, and should not copy parts of file over.
What you can do is look at the engine bin and the simulation bin for the CMP ES44AC, find the values for the brakes, and manually change values in the bins for the NS ES44ACs accordingly. However, as GN said above, the more realistic brake physics are lua scripted.

It may be simpler to have NS lease some ES44ACs from CP.
