With respect to 3), jointed rail would have to be in really bad line and level for the physics to make any significant difference. At that point, it would be more of a concern keeping the cars out of the ditch due to the rolling moments such poor track would introduce. What would be more significant with respect to jointed rail is the physics of smaller freight cars and heavier passenger cars with plain bearing trucks, which were almost universal in the when jointed rail was still common. IIRC, at least some developers of older prototypes have adjusted their models for this.
