Looks like a Steam issue that affects all games. I checked the properties of a few games, and they all had the same three options available in the Updates tab: "Always keep up to date", "Only update game when I launch it" and "High priority -- always auto-update before I launch game". Which begs the questions -- where's the difference between these options, as technically the all seem to do the same (the game is updated before it is launched), and more crucially, where's the "don't update" option and why is it gone?
EDIT:I asked on the Steam forums about that and got some interesting replies, though they were slightly conflicting each other.
1) one poster suggests that the new "only update game when I launch it" setup might offer an option to cancel the update, but goes on guessing that might render the game unplayable until it gets actually updated
2) another poster says that this option hasn't changed from before, but has always been doing exactly that and was wrongly named "don't update". Only now that Steam calls it correctly, "only update when I launch game"
