Need help with modifying bin file

Unread postby HankySpanky » Sun Mar 02, 2014 7:39 pm

I have made a modification in the middle of a bin file to add headlights to a SD40-2 and it works. However, I have several repaints of the same SD40-2. The question I have is that instead of painstakingly going into each engine's bin file individually, is there a way to write a sort of batch type file that would cover them all at one time?
I'm sort of learning XML and I am assuming there is a hierarchy in the programming and that I can't just through this in at the end. This is a cEntityContainerBlueprint-sChild.

There surely can't be *that* many .bin files? I would have thought a copy/paste of the whole child block, and then local editing for each file, would be much quicker than trying to write a batch file (with all the likely flaws and debugging)?

Well certainly! I'm just a lazy s.o.b. who hates repetition.
Besides, if I ever were to customize it enough, I might be able to package it up and post it for others to enjoy.

Are you in luck.
RW-Tools has exactly what you are looking for.
Click on "Search and replace", then "Find in multiple files".

Even more luck, instructions for this are in the "MultiFind.pdf" file in the RW-Tools folder.
