A bad day?

You bet. I have had a hard passed 2 weeks and today I decided to post the uploaded files. Got up at 7 and took care of the cats so Kerri could sleep in and I sit down to do my work for the RWA and it turns out to be total aggravation.

2 files have screenshots but no thumbnail.
1 file has 2 installations inside of it, an rwp and a RW Tools install.
Another has thumbnails and screenshots but the wrong sizes.
1 more is an update to an existing upload, I think, it has the same file name, so do I replace the old one or is this an addition? Who knows?
1 more has the geopcdx files in it for a repaint of an engine from a DLC route.
2 more have readmes that are formatted so bad I can not even copy and paste them into the web page with out 10 minutes of reformatting. Or I should say removing formatting.
Then to top it off I get 2 emails from people who can not upload.

This took up 2 hours of my time. I should be done with it in less than 20 minutes. In this 2 hours I pulled the files to my end, unzipped them and started to post and found all the things listed above to stop me.

What aggravates me most is everyone who uploaded something is a very talented person. All of you do something many of us can not do. Edit bin files and sounds, repaint engines beautifully, make fixes for existing products, make new scenery models for us to use and create fantastic scenarios. Now with all of that talent you can not follow the instructions for packaging and uploading a file here? I am at a loss here.

The 2 people who can not upload have a different problem. The people who are uploading have to help me out. I need you to follow the packaging and uploading instructions to the "T". The File Library is set up to have upload to the spec of the guidelines to make it "easy" to add to the system. If you do not follow the specs, then I have to redo too much to post your upload. I do not have the luxury of the time required for this all the time, and right now is one of those times. Your uploads will get posted, after I resize, and make new screens or thumbs, after I repackage some of the files, and after I reedit readmes so that I can use them. I am trying to make a nice organized file library and information center for all of you and everyone else who visits. I can not do this alone.

Now about the uploading problem. A group of us tested the uploading module months ago and it works just fine if you use Internet Explorer. Google Chrome seems to cause problems because of some settings that need to be changed. I do not know what settings they are as no one ever told me or they just used IE instead to upload. It took me 2 months to find and test an uploading module that would handle 200 meg files. What I have is all there is at the moment and it works best with IE. There is nothing else that can be done at this time. If someone who gets their browser to work would report the settings they changed to me I could post it for others.

I am done with the posting for today, too much time spent already on very little progress. I have 7 people coming in from out of state to visit with Kerri over her loss, it is not going to be a good day at all.

Please follow the uploading guidelines.

I've used Google Chrome for the minimal uploads I put in and they got through without a problem.

I've never changed a setting on Google Chrome, it's all default. !!det!!

Anyways, I hope your day improves Bob. !!*ok*!!

Guilty as charged. Sorry for the trouble.
I had completely forgotten there were upload instructions on the forums.
I wonder if a link to instructions could be added to the upload page?
That would save you a lot of aggravation.

Sorry, I'll upload a fix tomorrow morning. Have went through and renamed each of the jpeg files so they will have the same title format as the thumbnail.

Or more like it, I'll upload a fixed version of the file whenever you're ready for me to upload one, it doesn't matter to me when it gets uploaded.

...Cheers...

Bob,

A suggestion... don't fix the uploads. Let the uploader know they need to repackage them and resubmit them. You can let them know what's wrong, but don't spend your time on fixing them.

Just my two cents.

Thanks
Don

I think Don is right, I'd be more then happy to fix a file of mine if there's something wrong inside it. I don't think that you should have to fix it so I would be more then happy to fix it when needed.

The uploading issues have to do with the browser. I can't upload with Firefox, but I can with IE9 for some reason.
If a person can't upload with Firefox, then they might not be able to upload with any browser that uses internet standards, like Chrome for example.
It's kinda interesting, because Internet Explorer is the only web browser that doesn't use the Internet Standards guideline, which is why it uses it's own Flash plugins and every other browser uses the same plugin whether its Chrome, FF or Opera etc.

As far as the rest, I agree with Don.

Also: if any of those Uploads where mine I'd like to know so I can fix the problem for the future.

Same here - I was unable to upload with FF but was with IE11. Just a word about chrome from personal experience, you may want to run spybot after using chrome for a while. I was surprised at how much junk got through (many PUPS), that never got through when I use FF, so I don't use chrome anymore.

I've tried Chrome a couple of times over the last 4 or 5 years but just can't love it. I've heard from numerous internet forums it's loaded with spy and tracking ware.
It's not as friendly when it comes to settings or add-ons either.
I can't see how it got so popular.

Like it or not it's turning into a Google world. And I for one am mostly not liking it.

Yeah.
Google has the the best search engine still, but they have slowly fouled up YouTube and other things with their invasive stuff.

Bob, I will submit again the entry that you did not publish, after fixing the issues.
