If i open route by editor (in this case Marias Pass), i can see some signal light underground. Is it normal?

Yes it is a trick to be able to block off sections of a yard so we can run AIs through there. It is a fake block separator. Now they have invisible signals and I also have some that are railroad ties.

Well, that explains why I see signals in the HUD that don't exist anywhere else.

There a lot of these signals in the VNHRR route, making the very large yards at Springfield much more utilizable for AI traffic in scenarios. Thanks, Michael!

Would I be correct in assuming that if I set up a crossing grade with just crossbucks at the crossing, but actual "flashing" types of signals below the ground so they couldn't be seen, that would still cause car traffic to stop? Always wanted to try that for some rural road scenery but never knew if it would actually work or not.

Good thinking!

No reason why it wouldn't work. The bits that makes the traffic stop are the track links so in theory it doesn't matter where the physical model is.
"Life is like a journey, taken on a train
With a pair of travelers at each windowpane.
I may sit beside you all the journey through,
Or I may sit elsewhere, never knowing you.
But if fate should mark me to sit by your side,
Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."

That will work. I did this on a wye that crosses a rural hwy on a modified version of Castle Rock that I've done. I simply shoved the unwanted components of the signal below the road. Just make sure you put the crossing gate itself far enough down, so the end of it doesn't pop back up above the road when the gate isn't active.
I now have a non gated Xing that will stop traffic.

This will also work for industrial areas that may have flashing lights at a Xing, but without the gates.

Just tried it with the Horseshoe Pass route, small wye and you're correct - I also found that the newer signals were available from the Portland Maine route, and since they have better timing than the Maria's Pass signals, I was able to use those, dropped them below ground level and what do you know? They work great, short start/end times, just like in real life. !!*ok*!!
