Do lofts cast shadows? If they do this will be amazing with a full 3d Track.

This is going to be a heck of an update! The screenshots look brilliant, and the preview of the upcoming new features is almost too good to be true.
I must admit I'm most excited about the shadow rendering that seems to be going on with the new engine, this might ebven make it easier to model stuff (if that means we don't have to build shadow models any more) -- besides everything will be looking so much better, more real. And the lighting is spectacular too.

Ooh, I'm looking forward to September!

*!!thnx!!*
A MIGHTY BIG THANK YOU to the folks at RS.com.

lofts cast shadows.
the only things that don't are forward facing polygons like some of the foliage.
This is because they rotate to face the camera and the shadows would look mighty strange!
As the near trees are made up of lots of forward facing polygons I am now looking into creating some new 3d trees. the picture with the cow was my first attempt.

More shots soon.

best regards

Derek

Those shots are slick. We've seen rain, but what about snow? Will the locomotives, passenger cars, freight cars, etc accumulate the white stuff if they've been sitting in a yard and when traveling down the line?

Snow is probably set up just like rain. No idea on the snow accumulation though. (And it'd blow off when moving too in real life)

the snow would blow off unless it was WET snow, which there is alot of in the western mountains! wet snow will stick to the locomotive and freight/passenger cars even if you are up to speed around 70mph! (it will just take a bit longer to accumulate)

Not to mention particle physics of the snow being kicked up from the roadbed from the passing train. :D

Derek,

With "Near" trees, is it recommended that we make the trees full 3D with no shadow model?

EDIT: Oop, saw the answer on UKTS.

Stencil shadows will go, my advice is not to bother making any more.

It's always been possible to model " winterized " locos and rolling stock .. and turn the effect on and off .

I had a similar idea (a dream, I'm sure, lol)... wouldn't it be neat if an engine collected dirt and grime as miles are driven and then could be washed cleaned at the shop?!!!
