It sounds to me like they redefined that term, as is typically known. *!rolleyes!*

I guess that's why they're coining the term 'Relay'. That does seem more appropriate than multiplayer.

I hope they reveal more info about quick drive. I love the concept, but I want to know how they are doing AI trains.

From that video it looks like the one AI train they showed was the same as the player train. It would be a little weird on a US route if the world was full of identical trains.

Most importantly, will this work on a single track route? How are meets handled? Or does this only work for double track routes?

We use to shorten Multiplayer Online by just Multiplayer because is the most commom.
I don't know the names in English but beyond different meanings there are also other differences among:
online: functional and available to use on demand by a system
real time: 1h in game = 1h real clock (like TS2012, except under 18fps when games start to delay, or when using the speed up feature).
sync event data: current (either in-game and real life is 9:00am); fictional (in game is 9:00am but in real clock is 3:00pm). Same for weather, clock etc...
continuous transmition's flow: like a live camera anywhere, or when you are using TeamSpeak.
batch transmition flow: from time to time (or after a certain time) the data are relayed to update another notch of a net. For example, when you refresh a website's screen, or the retransmition of a football match two hours after the match finished.
mulltiplayer: whether is more than one... well, is multi... !*roll-laugh*!

I bet it will only work for double (or more) track sections... not only because it would be too much complex to manage traffic on single lines (unless they rebuilt the Dispatcher, which I doubt), but also because most of (if not all) UK routes I've seen are at least double track, and RSC is basically a UK company, naturally they mind with familiar things. Anyway is a good step forward, I noticed the AI traffic is automatic, it seems you will have AI's doesn't matter if you want, or not. That's intersting, of course.

I hope they don't throw away the current hilarious US models.
Men stomping stubbornly forward while women undulate their way in random directions.
Especially the tall blond with the tramp stamp. US routes wouldn't be the same without her and her 17 sisters on each platform.
