Well, the patch has improved quality and smoothness a fair bit, but longing for some increased FPS I've spring-cleaned my scenarios and standardised the rolling-stock, reducing the variety within individual scenarios. Got a nice boost to FPS too. So all in all I'm happy with what the update has achieved in one way or another :)

Has the appearance of the Horseshoe Curve The Champion scenario changed? On my first run after the update, I was immediately struck by the overwhelming blueness of the sky and mountains - it felt different but I don't have a reliable picture of my mind as to how it looked before. Tried without luck to find some older screenshots/videos of the non-blizzard parts of that scenario.

Post core update, I am seeing less stuttering and FPS slightly higher. My system is an HP core i7 HPE that I have tweaked with a new ATI Sapphire card and because one of the original dims was going 2 new high speeds 4 gig dims from Spector 5.

I just cant believe how much more enjoyment I'm getting from this game after the update :) I dont know if its extra shadow quality I'm now able to get (high), or the improved AA - but the sense of 'being there' is so much better now. LOL - even the sounds seem better than ever :)

I cant believe I almost kicked RW3 out of bed for MSTS.

Just really hope they can patch a bit further to tap more of the available hardware, at some point in the future :)

Honestly, the update has no effect on me. I'm still seeing the same low frame rates that I've had before the update. XFire has the framerates hovering around 8-10 fps or so. Until RSC.com makes some real changes to the TSX engine, it's "off" on my system.

I think getting any cheap DX9 gfx card would help you. That 520 is geared more towards DX11 acceleration than DX9. Either a cheap gts250 for dx9 & dx10 acceleration, or splash-out on a 550 for both DX9 & DX11 performance would improve things a lot on your spec'd rig.

Really - the 520 (220, 320, or any '20') aren't 3d accelerators at all. They're the butt-end of the chipset range that simply give you a handy socket for connecting your monitor to your base-unit.

On the other hand - there's some real pain-assy quirks in it. Like when loading a saved scenario with a steam loco. If you saved while the loco was moving then you're guranteed its gonna de-rail before you manage to get in the cab.30% of the time non-steam loco scenarios are followed by a consist crash of some sort. Usually an AI collision between services not even routed near one-another.

here's one I just had and manically tried to avoid:

Saw this posted on Facebook a few hours ago.

ALL TS2012 USERS: there will be a small core update tonight via Steam. This will fix the outstanding issues with particle effects (e.g. smoke not visible from cab view). Thank you.

Well I just put in an order for the GTX 550ti card, so hopefully this will solve my problem with the TSX engine.

i have it and love it. best value on the market hands down! even when i had my 5 yr old dual core the 550Ti gave dramatic improvements with tsx.

now i paired it with my new quad core fx and I can play the game just fine with medium shadows and Fxaa, highest textures, which is better than not having tsx on.

The 550TI will not solve all of your problems with TSX. It's not really even considered to be a gaming card, but home theatre accelarator. I have two of them. Both of them in SLI give tolerable performance in RW. But just running one, it gets upwards of 160F and is a bit jerky in the game. For comparison though, even the hell-fire combat scenes in Alien Vs Predator run silky smooth with no lag or hesitation with that card.

Oh my God! I was about to buy a 550TI... I know that was discussed before, but what should be a good option (with atmospheric, not stratospheric) prices, then?

I've said it before, but you're not going to get very much increase at all from any GPU upgrade. Even after the update, I think RW is still CPU bound and CPU speed is the only way to make a significant performance increase. Going from a GT8800 to something new will definitely help, of course. But going from a 200 series to a 500 series won't help much at all.
