Peer Pressure from Trainz Community?

Discuss almost anything about RailWorks.

At least it was hijacked in the right direction. !!*ok*!!

Agreed! The discussion was hijacked towards how to make TS2013 better and away from a developer's plea to jump over to Trainz. Buzz said we could make a new thread to do that, but we don't need to make a new one for everything. Especially with the sheer number of threads here already. Sometimes you just let a conversation evolve.

To Derek....

I have to keep in perspective that.... as far as I know, you are only an artist for the sim and not one of the programmers. It's simply because you have become the face of the company here by default. So it's no wonder our complaints will flow towards you in hopes it will be heard and passed on to those that work on those things. I want to say SORRY to you if you feel like I'm faulting you. I am not. There has been pretty universal praise for the look of TS2013, so you indeed have plenty to be proud of as an artist. Reduction is object pop-in and z-fighting would be nice, but that's a programming issue and not an artist issue.

To say RSC's communication with it's users leaves something to be desired is an understatement. Updates on the Donner Pass enhancement is a notable exception. They have done quite well there in communication of what is being improved. They need to build on that communication in other areas as well. I HATE the "opinions vary" excuse when it's used improperly. Opinions vary on whether Picasso's art is good or bad since it was never made to represent the real world accurately and only comes down to personal tastes.

The Donner Pass route is not Picasso art that's left to personal taste. It's trying to represent a real world location as realistically as can be represented under certain time constraints. Cuz time is money for the hours that must be paid to work on it and not every single object along the tracks of the entire route is going to be made. You try and get as many of the main landmark objects that stand out as possible. But when people complained that the Donner Pass route was not accurate, instead of using the "opinions vary" excuse and running away from the problem.... RSC manned up and worked on righting a wrong and kept us informed with screenshots in the process. They manned up right away when I emailed them about my SD70Ace DLC not working. They said they know of the problem and are working on a fix. A few weeks later.... I have a fix as promised and am enjoying my DLC as a result.

But physics are well established math problems, not thousands of objects along a route. All they have to do is get the math right. Run 8 and Train Master come closest to getting it right, TS2013 does not. If any of the major railroads were forced to use a consumer level train sim to train their engineers..... TS2013 would certainly not be on it's list from a physics point of view. That would likely be Run 8.

I don't complain about TS2013 to convince people to jump to another sim. I simply want RSC to man up like they did with Donner Pass and fix it while keeping us informed. Cuz creating accurate physics formulas is a lot less time consuming then making a long route like Donner Pass as accurate as possible,

As for adding OPTIONS can add complications? Maybe... but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. Getting a car that has a engine that is BOTH powerful AND fuel efficient is complicated. But it was done once people put their minds to it. The word COMPLICATED is often used as an excuse when somebody doesn't want to put the effort into something. Not saying it's the case here, but it's certainly in the realm of possibility.

In the end... I don't want the Railworks franchise to die, I want it to get better. And while Xbox 360 controller support, the relay mode and steam shop are nice additions, the foundation on which they run should be fixed first and foremost. Kinda like making sure a car runs right before trying to sell me options like a sun roof or premium sound system.

My posts are out of my passion for the product, not a mission to publicly destroy it. Especially considering all the money I've put into it in such a short period of time.

Ya know what I mean? !!howdy!!

Mini train.sim is not a good thing here. We are hoping to have a positive forum instead of a bunch of bitching about what is not perfect yet and probably never will be. I think it was Bill Cosby that said" If you try to please everyone you will please no one."

I agree. It's just human nature to concentrate on the things we don't like and that we just want to make better, It's the reason most people wouldn't watch the nightly news if it was 30 minutes of nothing but good news. That's why I try and temper my complaints with praise of what is right so it is known I mostly like it.

Sometimes it just feels better to vent. We all vent on here about one thing or another. Just look at the passion and furry in the threads over the new EULA. It's not cuz we hate the product, we genuinely want it as perfect as possible.

I ranted enough. Now I'll just debate other people's points for now. *!!wink!!*

To Hack.... He's not my cousin. Not sure where you got that. Never made that reference that I know of? !**conf**! !*roll-laugh*!
