Sorry but this looks a lot like people complaining about RSC because its RSC.

RSC are not a charity and they have to sell stuff to pay the staff to do all those AI, Physics, editor fixes you want done. They are going to make the models that they think will sell. If NEC is a big seller then they are going to sell rolling stock to go on it. Logical no? Selling things is the aim of the game.

It is no different to the reasons why payware producers in MSTS etc produce 4 different versions of the SD70Ace rather than produce other locos, because they think that an SD70Ace pack will sell more than a GP40 pack even though there are other versions out there.

If they think that a GG1 will sell better than a SD50 then that is what they will make even if there is another producer out there.

And more to the point - no one is forcing you to buy it, if you want to support Dick and others, then buy their models, buy IHH not RSC, donate to Hawk etc etc don't buy anymore DLC from RSC.

Personally, I dont feel good about RSC doing a GG1 considering Dick's model, but its not 'wrong' for them to do it.

Really, I think we all answered the debate. Yep, RSC is in it as a business. Sure, there's some train-nuts in the company and clearly some passion, but its a business, for one bottom line. Nothing wrong with that! And smaller 3rd party developers are (generally) in it to share their interest and talent, and make some extra money. So its really two different perspectives. And two different options for those who want to support in the form of a purchase. Maybe both, when money permits. Oh well, I say lets keep this thread open so we can post some screenshots as they become available.

To be fair to RSC that would be the equivalent of there being equally famous Pennsy electric classes numbered GG1-10, and then they still picked the same as Dick's. Until Bill pulled some pic up of some bizarre and utterly wonderful device I wasn't aware of any others ( obviously when you think about it there probably were some ) - but I knew about GG1s since I was a kid. There's room for both: if Dick had felt that commercial about it I've no doubt he could have got his released through RSC on steam at some point.

S'ok, we'll just do a community pro-edition SD70 and market the hell out of it ;) assuming Alex didn't bin his.

Don't bash RSC on my account. If it wasn't for their efforts we wouldn't have the sim and I wouldn't be enjoying myself so much!!!!

I quite agree with this. As I have said earlier, "I do this for fun so I can do what I like and how I like it and when I want to." Perhaps if I were running a serious business I would have a professionally built web site and use long strings of letters and numbers for my pass words!!! !*YAAA*! !*roll-laugh*!

Dear All,

Bill has pretty much hit the nail on the head. The vast majority of our users seem to want STEAM downloads and we try our best to get them what they want.

I love the developers that cluster around us, it's actually one of the key reasons we keep the software as open as we do.

As to why some contribute to the pool of content and others choose not too, well we have to respect that. I am sure there are many reasons, but I would say that it is hard. You need 3Dstudio max to get the best out of TS2012 and a big bunch of time, it's a big commitment both in terms of time and talent.

One final thought.... We never push, but we do offer a STEAM delivery service to those who want to do that. Many do use it as you know. Since the big uplift in users since we launched 2012, our biggest Market being the US, you would be surprised who is now talking to us.

Anyway enough from me.

It almost sounds more like he's talking about someone like Diesels West, Streamlines or Maple Leaf Tracks. Wouldn't that be a kick is the butt.

Yes it would. I would have to eat my hat if it turns out this way.

I'd be willing to bet that it's a company called.... Well let's just say it it was started by a man named Bill (like in Gates).
