DTG is asking for any questions folks might have about the future of Train Simulator. (See their web site, it's on the front page) They have set a deadline of August 5th at 5pm (UK time) for questions to be submitted. It's not exactly clear when they will answer the questions. They also mention that no question is too stupid... seems like a person or two has already taken that to heart. And just to be clear, I mean a person or two who have responded on their site... not anyone in this thread.

I rarely visit their homepage so thank you for posting this Tomcat. I just emailed DTG my questions.

Tomcat,
I just went to their home page and I can't find any reference to what you are referring to there. Can you give us a link to wherever you are speaking of?

What he said. There is a link to that page from their home page. Wasn't sure about the proper etiquette for posting links to external sites, my apologies.

Changing to the Unreal engine will be good for eye-candy and possibly physics.
But I sure hope DTG will also rewrite the game-specific code.
I'm thinking of you, dispatcher.

The current edition will live on for a while with diminished support after a few years, less content and most likely less bug fixes. IMHO there might might not be a heavy acceptance of the new engine because of the some what abysmal efforts to clean up bugs in past DLC. If I remember correctly It was promised to make an asserted effort to clean up most past issues. In doing so new issues were created. Finally, on DLC that was too much effort to fix they simply removed breaking many workshop items. There will be a small surge of initial adopters because of curiosity and the "eye candy" appeal. If smart, the introductory price will be low enough to get more people interested and accelerate the acceptance. DTG_James has stated an announcement will come soon on the new version, whether or not it is about the UE4 or an update to the current version is not clear.

Well gee after your grumpy editorializing I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they have to say.

It will be interesting to see what routes they're going to release for the new game engine. Personally I don't think we'll see any duplicates of routes that have already been released, so I'm looking forward to see what they come up with since we already have most of the well known routes in the US.

Why do you think that?

Maybe they will be able to import existing routes? Stabbing in the dark here.

From a business point of view I don't think they would remake a route they have already done for the current version of TS to sell to the same people. Perhaps they might do some of the same routes but a different time period or something different, but I don't think they would do exact versions of the ones already out.

If they want people to convert to the new route they will make everything convertible. Computers can do stuff like that. Otherwise it's going to be a long time before most of us go to the new one. Of course some will go there because it's there but most of us that have committed a fair amount of money and far more time will not be so fast to go to another simulator.

Maybe **!!bang!!**
It didn't happen too well from FS9 to FSX and they were both 32-bit and DirectX 9.0C, and certainly not with MS Flight which had an entirely ne engine, just like UE4 will be. Here we are going from 32 to 64-bit and possibly up yo DirectX 11.00 or 12.0 (from 9.0C).
We live in hopes, but from what DTG have said in the past TSUE4 will NOT be backward compatible with TS2016 and both will run separately! !!*ok*!!

Look on the bright side of life! !*roll-laugh*!

I am not trying to be a downer. I'm just saying it's going to take more than some pretty graphics to get me to abandon all of the effort that has been put into TS2016. All of the grumblers and complainers are mostly those trying to run TS with inadequate laptops or pc's that really don't have good gaming capability. For all the griping that goes on in some quarters this sim has come a long way baby and I personally think the best is yet to come.
