Some of the problems seem to relate to third party routes, in particular with the .png photo for the route description. Hangups in trying to get into the Drive pages.

The solution for third party routes or routes by the community seems to be to either replace the .png with one from DTG (whether appropriate to the route or not) or to redo the .png yourselves. Both easy solutions now that the problem has been identified.

No problems with the setup on my old computer (still running windows 8.1) apart from the .png issues. Been able to test 6 beefy contributor routes into scenarios, Build and Scenario editors. No problem with the 3 DTG routes I have tried.

I don't stay subscribed to any Workshop routes (save and delete the subscription on them) so can't replicate any Workshop problems.

From DTG

How to Fix the TSC Menu Crash After Update
Modified on: Fri, 28 Apr, 2023 at 10:37 AM

It has come to our attention that some users are experiencing a crash/freeze following a recent update (See image below). Early feedback seems to indicate that the problem is caused by route/loco thumbnails not matching the required standard.

Thumbnail Standard: 512x256px with zero compression or interlacing.

One such route that is causing a freeze is "Three Country Corner". To resolve the issue, we need to unpack the route's maincontent.ap file and delete the thumbnail. Should this be resolved by the developer, the instructions below can be undone by Verifying your game files with Steam.

If you don't feel comfortable with the terms and actions mentioned below, we would recommend that you wait for an update from the developer.

Doesn't seem to be a massive screw-up in relaion to DTG's products and I haven't seen any "DTG crap"...

This from DTG on the update and issues that have been reported to them and also how to run TSC in DX12 which is experimental at this stage.

No issues running DX12 for me but I did try to make a short video of it but all it recorded was the Nvidia recorder startup screen with the train not moving with the sounds playing.

A note from Smokebox"
Strange that those "non-standard thumbnails" have worked perfectly for 10 years. Oh well, I guess I'll have to spend a few minutes updating them, now that I've happened upon this article by pure chance.

In advance of an official patch via Steam, I've uploaded to my Google drive an "rwp" file, called Smokebox_TSC_Updated_Loco_Thumbnails_29Apr23.rwp, that contains all the necessary updated loco thumbnails:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/10B_t0L ... sp=sharing

The rwp is a zipfile. The root folder in it is "Assets". Simply unzip that folder it into your RailWorks root folder (usually located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks).

Notes from Searchlight Simulations:
A short follow up on yesterdays TSC update. We can confirm that the update indeed resulted in several issues across the board.
It rendered the CP AC4400 unplayable as you cannot physically insert the reverser key anymore. Furthermore, RailDriver compatibility appears to have been lost along with partial performance decreases (in some instances) and odd behaving scripts.
Whilst we anticipated certain things to break, we didn't expect all of the above. Unfortunately, no information on what the core update entailed in detail as far as the API, updates to the framework, LUA etc. has been disclosed to any 3rd party developers as far as we know which in turn makes it extremely difficult in hunting down exactly what causes certain bugs and how to address them.
We'll update this post whenever we know more.

[UPDATE - 04/28/23, 12:30CT] - Updates for the CP AC4400 are now available for download from our store. This update pre installs the reverser handle.

I tried the DX12 option to compare to the current stock DX9 option. I tried both 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 resolutions. I loaded Truckee Yard on Donner Pass with an WB 80 car train with all settings maxed and with 1x2 SSAA. These are in-cab view results.

1920x1200 DX9= 89FPS
1920x1200 DX12= 40FPS

A 55% decrease in performance using DX12

2560x1600 DX9= 76FPS
2560x1600 DX12= 36FPS

A 53% decrease in performance using DX12

Also of note.....

Even though Train Simulator is in DX12 experimental mode, MSI Afterburner's OSD FPS counter reports that it's still using DX9 for some reason. Not sure why it doesn't show DX12. At the very least... they need to work on it's performance. Because as of now, DX9 is the mode to play in. But in order to find the bugs with DX12 version, we have to play it in that mode and give feedback.

Definitely a work in progress. !!det!!

I haven't used TS seriously in months due to me playing my backlog of games. I just noticed the trackside camera view no longer stays focused on the lead locomotive nor does it pivot when it passes by. When did this camera stop pivoting? Am I late to the party on this? !*don-know!*

Yes you are. It has been reported and acknowledged. They are working on the fix and it will be included in the next update.

Well something happened... I noticed last night the start screen no longer had the new pic and the one before the update (Has the UP engine to the left) has returned. Read on a Facebook group that DTG was going to toss the crap update and roll it all back to the state it was before the update. Did this actually happen?

Be nice that DTG, for a change, acknowledged they screwed up instead some lame excuse(s) they always throw at us. This last update whacked the sim worse than any previous updates. How bout it all you DTG fan boys? Lot of you got worked over by this update. Is DTG still your daddy?

Whatever. It's now on 73.7a not a roll back. I'm running the experimental DX12 and it seems to be very smooth. Whining aside I think this will be a good thing when the bugs get fixed. A lot of running time yesterday and no OOM including a fair amount of route building time. The view 4 issue was reported acknowledged and a fix is in progress.

I'm with Buzz on this one. My first try with DX12 was a slideshow. After doing two of the three things suggested on the support page; this software has never run and looked as good as it does now. Bravo DTG! Simply incredible what has been done with this. DX12 all the way!
