I then started with settings at graphics "very low," and worked my way all the way to the top through each preset. At very low, I had an average of 29 fps (looking at the train in view 2). Then, at the other end of the spectrum, at max everything, including bloom and DOF, I was averaging 21. The funny thing is that I didnt see much of a difference as far as smoothness is concerned. 21 looked a little rougher (frame rate wise) but not all that much different than 29. I was surprised that even through the framerate didnt change all that much, the graphics were enormously better.

I then did the same thing with the Horseshoe Curve scenario "Summer" free roam, and at very low had an average of 35 fps, and at max settings, was at 28 fps. Something doesnt seem right. Either its not reporting framerates correctly, or something else is going on.

It might be better if you add what your settings are on the launcher , they play just as great a role as those in the options panel .

just sayin'

The opening (News, Settings, Packager, etc) screen is clear and sharp. However, the following three screens (War Bonnet/TS 2012, TS2012 w/assorted partner logos and the Sim Menu screen (Drive Train, Drive Route, Editor, etc) are blurred with the exception of the specific menu selections. They are sharp.

Returning to the sim, this is what I saw…

I have restarted the system (a few times), but with the same end result. I launched FSX and its visuals’ are perfect. So I imagine it’s not a graphics generator problem (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670). Additionally the device manager informs that the device is working properly. As confirmed by FSX.

So anybody got a clue??

Do you have anti aliasing turned on your graphics card? Turn it off if you do. I had mine turned in and it was messed up for me too. I just set everything back to default on the card and started tweaking it.

It appears that you can use AAA ( adaptive AA ) with the TSX engine; I tried a model that had horrible issues with AAA on in the past, and it looks perfectly solid.

Best guess here is Catalyst settings if you've tweaked them at all. I've seen in a few places - put Catalyst settings to default.

For the record, most posts regarding ATI cards seem to be casued by Catalyst settings.

For that matter - nvidia cards - I've seen a few places to keep everything default and let the app (RW3) handle all the settings

Importz2k1,

Thanx for the input. My ‘light bulb’ went on this afternoon. So I just finished doing was a 'System Restore' that was created at 6AM this morning (right after the download). That corrected the B&W and blurred screens. So far, all seems to be normal in RW created routes.

I still can't seem to get my WIP to work. Just beyond the opening screen... it crashes. That’s the next issue to deal with.

For now, I'm staying away from TSX. I can live without rain drops for a while. Sky, shadows (even tho they sometimes point in the opposite direction... hmmm, must be two or three suns in the sky) and jostling equipment is good enough for now.

Again, thanx for the input. Someone else suggested a similar approach. After I get the WIP up and working, I’ll tackle the TSX.

Thanx barnez... I'll check that now.

Throughout all the testing, I've had it set at the preset of "High" in the launch screen.

Still playing with "High" settings, bloom, shadows, and DOF. Still getting 18+ framerates...I dont know how, but I will enjoy it while it lasts. I deleted all the rollingstock that was presenting errors, and spend 2 hours going through all my routes updating the scenarios to change out the missing units.

The NS Atlanta North District (apart from a few bridge abutment graphics glitches) looks fantastic in TSX

Bridges are amazing with these shadows...

One more PRR shot! I cant get over how great this route is...! Best $15 on DLC ever.

I have to admit I was wondering how long it would be before you made a comment about how bright the lights were.

Montana, if you are getting 18fps on the Tennessee River at Chickamauga Dam, then you must have the Death Star reactor core running your rig!

John Lippai did a super job on the Ten Bridge, and it really shows in the TSX engine.

Can someone with I guess an Nvidia card try overclocking just the shader clock? I've pushed my cards core/mem clocks up a bit ( well, a lot in the case of the memory, it's +240Mhz ) and had quite a startling increase in fps despite a pretty low GPU load; with the extra clockspeed I've a GPU load of 50%, less than earlier, but more fps.

Looks like they need to put DirectX 10/11 in to get normal AA back. I hope they do this in the future and it would probably help perfomance.
