Don't count on it. Even at MAX settings on my ATI 6990 there are still jaggies in the distance a frame rates are not good at all. I have a killer system. I spent 4k on it and built it myself as I do all my rigs. Specs below. I can get about 20-29FPS max settings but there is considerable stuttering even then. Couple that with having to turn off V-Sync and you can add frame tearing to the mix. I would prefer to use the CCC to manage the graphics but as we all know now, we are forced to use the games AA and AF settings which are not very optimized IMO. I am quite disappointed that todays hardware cannot be fully utilized propery.

OK… 2012 was working (more or less) fine earlier. Then I understood that in order to see the rain effect and others I needed to check the TSX box in the setting. Which I did.

The opening (News, Settings, Packager, etc) screen is clear and sharp. However, the following three screens (War Bonnet/TS 2012, TS2012 w/assorted partner logos and the Sim Menu screen (Drive Train, Drive Route, Editor, etc) are blurred with the exception of the specific menu selections. They are sharp.

Returning to the sim, this is what I saw…

screen WB.jpg

hello.jpg

hello2.jpg

I have restarted the system (a few times), but with the same end result. I launched FSX and its visuals’ are perfect. So I imagine it’s not a graphics generator problem (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670). Additionally the device manager informs that the device is working properly. As confirmed by FSX.

So anybody got a clue??

Yeah it's (politely) not good , I did find that turning off DOF in game and then in CCC ticking morphological filtering gave a better result . It's not the solution I'd like to see of course .

I am wondering what sort of settings people would suggest for me to try with my laptop.

HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
AMD Turion II P540 Dual-Core Processor 2.40 GHz
RAM - 4.00 GB
Windows 7 64 Bit
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series

For what it is worth, I went with a mid-range card - a GTX 460, which with mail in rebate goes for about 150$. Some brands could be closer to 200$ or even 230$.

I just went with the chart from here:

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=7 ... 8680273090

which to me suggested that this card is fast enough that one can turn on all of the new goodies. NVidia has stopped producing the 460 chipset - it is slightly older, and they are pushing other things as more modern replacements. There are clearly others out there - I guess my point is that this should give you a rough idea of where you need to aim if you want something that can run TS2012 with all of the goodies.

I would add though that these cards can eat a considerable amount of electrical power - they suggest a minimum case power supply of 400W. Mine happened to be 875, so I wasn't in trouble there either.

Paragon wrote:I had the same problem. I had only made changes to the primary skin and the specular skin. I did not fuss with any other engine component, and maintained my mods within the Kuju folder structure.

The fix was to preserve the two texture files I modified, and kill the rest of the modified folder. I then re-coped from the new RW3 default engine folder, and replaced my two texture files.

The cab view returned to normal, and I now have the enhanced lighting objects sticking out in the front of the engine! The process also uncovered some mistakes in my skinning, so it's going to end up even better than before.

AzularEdit.jpg

Unfortunately, I dont think this is possible with all my paints. I'd rather find the thing thats changed and fix that on each one, than start copying and editing each bin file. Has anyone fixed this another way? The Portland Terminal E7 has this problem too. I've looked through the engine.bin's, the cabview.bins, and all the textures and cannot find any differences (other than the lights, smoke, and new tractive effort sections - which I've copied exactly into the old units).

I still cant figure out why all the old SD40-2 paints work just fine, but all the old ES44 and F7 (and E7) are messed up. It makes no sense.

I found this: http://ftp.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php ... 48242cd4e8

Maybe...the best thing to do is delete ALL of my RW2 content and just start from scratch. It may be easier than trying to fix everything.

Congrats Styckx!
... On the other hand, if I were you... going the Nvidia route may have been the preferred choice as far as TS2012 goes.

You've seen my system posted earlier with an HD6990 & HD6970 paird togther in "Trifire" CrossfireX mode.
This should fly in TS2012, but sadly it doesn't *!sad!*
I tried the HD6990 alone (dissabling Crossfire) and lost an additional 5+ FPS overall in doing so.

It's clear to me that TS2012 is not optimised, and certainly not for ATI/AMD graphic cards.

FYI, if you aren't planning to water/liquid cool your new HD6990, be prepared for more fan noise than
your two 5870's create. The 6990 can get fairly loud at default setting and can be obnoxious when using the "overclocked" BIOS switch
on the card. Oh and make sure your case has good airflow as this is one HOT card!

I've got a Antec NineHundredTwo. Airflow is peachy.

See, I was considering Nvidia, but I have always been 95% sided that I would never pay for their products again since the whole physx debacle way back when. ATI has been consistently pushing the envelope and I decided to continue to stick with them.

With TSX enabled; I did a test with the scenario "Full Up" and saved my progress about 10 minutes into it, going through the yard with consists everywhere and lights on. I then started with settings at graphics "very low," and worked my way all the way to the top through each preset. At very low, I had an average of 29 fps (looking at the train in view 2). Then, at the other end of the spectrum, at max everything, including bloom and DOF, I was averaging 21. The funny thing is that I didnt see much of a difference as far as smoothness is concerned. 21 looked a little rougher (frame rate wise) but not all that much different than 29. I was surprised that even through the framerate didnt change all that much, the graphics were enormously better.

I then did the same thing with the Horseshoe Curve scenario "Summer" free roam, and at very low had an average of 35 fps, and at max settings, was at 28 fps. Something doesnt seem right. Either its not reporting framerates correctly, or something else is going on.

Toshiba LAPTOP
Win 7 64bit
i5-430 2.6mhz processor
Nvidia GTS360M 1gb graphics
8 gb Gskill DDR3 1033 ram
7200 rpm hitachi drives
...nothing special...

That ^^^ plus the rebranding issues catching less knowledge users ( not that ATI are guiltless as far as rebranding goes ). Best bang for buck for the last couple of years has been Team Red ,Top End New Zealand release in Q1 2012 should continue cycle for the present , in Oz , current prices of NV590 are ludicrous ( Pro series cards are worse though )

Good luck with the new card , think I'll wait till later .
