I bought an XBox controller (USB, not wireless). Windows 7 found and installed an XBox driver when I connected the controller; RailWorks showed it saw the controller and was able to use it by indicating the XBox button that could be pressed on appropriate XBox controoable screen buttons. Mouse control was not affected in any way.

Overall, quite pleased. It does appear some keyboard use will still be necessary.

The best item, (those who are capturing videos will love this) is using the two joysticks to move and rotate; proportional control, start slow and gradually increase speed. Really works well in the cab to make smooth up/down/rotary view adjustments, even find tweaks that aren't possible with a keyboard.

I also discovered that when moving ("8" mode), the right trigger will increase movement speed, with proportional control.

Only "glitch" is actually an audio one. When moving in the "8" mode, doppler sound shift occurs, depending on how fast you approach or recede from the train. True, this would occur in the real world but I didn't expect it and I feel it detracts from the movement ability.

A "thumbs up" from me.

Some more random observations:

Screen captures are now saved as .jpgs instead of the much larger .pngs. I see this as a good thing.

The EOT is awesome - very nice.

The echoing sound effects inside tunnels are well done.

Image

The thunder and lightning effects are pretty cool -

Image

So are the rainbows after the storm! (its faint, but there)

Image

Dynamic brakes seem to work much much better (hopefully its not my imagination) and dynamic brake sounds now emit from all locomotives in a consist.

Image

Everything seems very nicely done in my opinion.

Well day 2 and I've had few issues.

1: I got Quick Drive load errors with the some of the SP power from Donner Pass, but a cache clear fixed it.

2: In Quick Drive using Barstow as your departure point, it always starts you on a track in the yard that has you heading to Mojave and not towards San Bernardino... among other words heading towards a dead end. There is a crossover to get to the track to SB, but you would have to drive your entire train past it and then reverse that whole train onto it to then proceed on to SB. Huge headache and oversight there.

3: In Quick Drive on Donner Pass, I chose Colfax as my departure point and chose the GE C44-9W with the 70 Autoracks. It either derails as soon as it loads OR doesn't move at all despite being in Run 8. And once you exit, if you decide to click on the PLAY AGAIN button at the bottom of the screen, as soon as it loads,,,,,, the train sinks through the ground and drifts aimlessly through the inner space below. Also there are NO COUPLERS on anything. I thick HACK mentioned they were underground or something. I certainly didn't see any above ground. The scenario is totally broken and unusable. The other two GE C44-9W 70-car scenarios don't have that problem.

4: I found another bug on Donner Pass in 2013, but I went to my old laptop to see if it was in 2012 and it was. So it's the route. It's in Free Roam and Colfax as your departure point. If you try and use the cross-over track from Colfax North #2 over to North #1 that's just past the crossing gates, it derails like you hit something as soon as you touch track #1. I made sure all the switches were thrown correct so it isn't that. It may have been mentioned before, but this is the first I've known about it.

That's the problems so far. Otherwise I like 2013 better for the most part. As usual, there are problems to be fixed. I'm gonna email them with my info so they know of the problems. There will be more I imagine. *!!wink!!*

I just spotted something that looks like a new route that I don't recognize of seeing here before.

Anyone know where this East Coast Mainline came from????

East Coast Mainline is the new name for the Newcastle to York route.

For anybody else who is curious about new route names:
Great Western Mainline = Oxford to Paddington

Somerset Dorset Joint Railway = Bath to Templecombe

Ruhr Sieg line = Hagen to Siegen

What do you mean?

I was one of the many who "lost" the RSC loco packs.I was agreeing that the latest update restored them. And I was commenting on the ease of use of the axis rotation on the placement tool. Thats all.

Another download just arrived: more user manuals, plus I don't know what. There's still one crucial -- for me -- manual missing: the 2013 version of the Creator's Manual. Dare I hope for an update to the Timetable Editor as well? There are three new icons at the top of the right-hand panel: one for inserting a hand-over point for "Relay" scenarios and two more that are greyed out so far.

I'm really enjoying rediscovering RW ... lots of new features to explore and learn, the Sherman Hill route, new names for old friends, etc. Yesterday, I tried running in windowed mode and for the first time I could see both RW and the desktop gadget that shows processor activity. All cores were in use, so evidently I don't have to use Park Control anymore to activate them all. Getting back to the manuals, the new ones for routes really look much more professional than their older counterparts.

Kudos and thanks to RSC!

I'm keeping the Steam client up and I'm still getting small TS 2013 updates from Steam from time to time.
I think we have to get used to the fact that updates will take a few days to deploy, and refrain from screaming bloody murder on forums until they are completed.

So far I am absolutely pleased with RSC.

Working a lot ofd OT right now so I have not had very much time to spend with it. My only "thing" was trying to navigate my first couple of times through the new start up menu. I did have to reinstall Krellnuts SD70 sound pack. Other than that I would have to give RSC a two thumbs up from my stand point. Well done! Now to get my dirty little hands on Sherman Hill.

Best Railworks yet, they got rid of the micro stutter. I couldn't use Railworks 2012.

Runs Bay of Quinte at over 50 FPS and doesn't need the limiter at the "Highest quality" setting.

SMOOOOOOOOOOOOth!

Anybody missing the old F3 HUD with its track display showing signal indication and mileposts?
We finally got signal indications with HSC and now we've lost them again it seems. Or am I missing something?

I haven't found it yet either. That's a glaring omission IMnsHO... I was getting used to exclusively in-cab operation and that's a must-have for that. You can get that information from the 2D map if you can decipher which direction the signal points, but it's not the same, especially in complex yards with many junctions.
Otherwise I'm extremely pleased with the core update. Much better frame rates, much smoother, and I can finally use TSX on my laptop with most other settings at HIGH. !*YAAA*!
On my gaming desktop I was getting 75FPS on the Cajon at East Victorville. That's really impressive.
We'll eventually work through most of the other minor issues, just like we did with 2012, I'm sure.
