I'm curious to know if anyone has experienced the problem I'm having since the update? Before the update, I was working on several steam locos and had no problem loading them into the sim and running them without a tender. After the update, when I exported one of these engines, as soon as I selected it in the sim, the sim would freeze up and I would have to exit via Ctrl-Esc (or Ctrl-Alt-Del). I would get the "Something Bad Has Happened...." message. The example steam engine, included in the Developer addon for Rail Simulator, would also crash the sim.

After some trial and error, I found that if I added a tender to these engines, I was able to select them in the sim without a crash. Setting the "Tender Required" line in the Simulation blueprint (under Steam subsystem blueprint/injector) to "False" makes no difference. The sim still freezes if a tender is not added to the engine. One of the engines is a tank engine and I'm at a standstill with it. I've emailed RSC support, but so far have only gotten the generic "Verify Game Game Cache" and "Clear the Blueprint Cache" reply. This made no difference. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very appreciative.

My suggestion is better than that from RSC: remove, just in case you are using, the preload Steam command line -DontUseBluePrintCache. Since they released some new engine (I noticed that after SD75, may be coincidence only), the way of work when editing blueprints has changed. Before I could just edit an existing bin file (ex. a child light object parameter) and launch scenario. Now, even when I just edit an existing bin I have to clear cache. Fortunately I have a batch that clear cache whilst in-game, no need of exit and restart TS2012. But that let me confused.

The SBHH is usually due to missing .geo (or problem related). Looks like now the game cache is not only holding a list of files to load, but also in some cases the content (the code) within the files (bin? xml? proxy*?). !*don-know!*

Hope this helps.

Hi Doc,

Thanks for the reply. I tried your suggestion, but unfortunately it did not solve my problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled RW2 last night and verified the integrity of the game cache before running the game again, but the problem still exists. I installed Rail Simulator (which I haven't had installed for several years.) and was able to run the Developer Example Steam loco without a tender. When I added the RS Developer Assets to TS2012 and placed the engine into a scenario, it crashed the sim. Adding a tender solved the problem. I can download a tank engine from the web and it works fine. It's a mystery to me.

That's the amateur and highly annoying (for creators) side of RSC: they change important things without warning, neither before nor after the changes. !*hp*!

Maybe another coincidence since the Feb's upadte (Kali has statet that game's engine hard code is the same), but to make the headlights of WH Class67 not project light they messed with all spot lights (not only of locomotives) of game. Since then some locos headlights were turn on when you started the game, and from a distance of say 150m or higher all the spot lights stop to cast shadows causing a very weird effect. I didn't check yet if this worse behavior of casting shadows changed after SP-1.

Further I'll see this new thingy you are reporting of steams and tenders necessarily attached each other. Of course 99,99% of time they run paired, but that's do not justify a change of behavior.

Since I long time (if not since ever) I'm seriously under the impression that RSC works with small groups of developers (even individual ones) that don't know enough about the whole game's system. They ask someone to do "something" new and then "something" new is done, but not with the minimum and due care about all the consequences in other areas/details/features of game.

Not surprising at all... Facebooker's users don't care for these details...

Mike, I'm not wanting to insult, but why the heck are you trying to run a locomotive without a tender? I mean, they need water and coal after all? Just curious I guess, why you want to do that. !*don-know!*

May I? Move the engine in/out the a shed or repair shop, swap a defective tender, take the place of a deffective engine in the yard... I can imagine tons of short operations (especially in a yard) with no need of extra coal and water, ie no need of a tender couple to it. *!!wink!!*

As I stated in my first post, one of the engines I'm working on is a 'tank' engine and does not require a tender. So, as things stand now, I'm unable to run this engine without a tender. I have several engines in various stages of development and when I test them in the game, I don't want to have to add a tender. In fact, I haven't started the tenders for the engines I'm working on. Some of them aren't to the point where I've added couplers.

I realize that this is probably a unique situation and apparently no one else is experiencing this same problem. I can download a tank engine from the web, install it, and select it in a scenario and it runs fine. But, when I select my own tank engine, it immediately crashes the sim. I have 4 steam engines I've been working on, 3 of which use a tenders. All 4 of them would run in the sim prior to the June 19th. update, without a tender. After the update, I started having the problem I described. After much trial and error, I discovered the problem was the tender. (or lack thereof)

Marc,

Are your CSX Main Line scenarios available anywhere. I really like this route.

Ahhh, now I see. Like I said, I was just curious about the tender issue (pun intended) Will be cool to see some WIP shots of your locomotives once they are further along. !!*ok*!!

I discovered there is now a need to add bulk cargo definitions for coal and water under the Cargo component section of the engine blueprint, in order to run an engine without a tender.

If I ever get to the point where I feel that I may actually be able to release them (or even one) I will post some shots. Thanks.
