No, flight simulators aren't 2D at any point. They are terrain textures laid on 3D mesh with 3D autogen laid on top of that no matter how high you are. Even photoreal is laid on 3D mesh.

Isn't TS scenery basically the same? Textures laid on mesh? I don't know. I've never done any scenery.

With all due respect I don't think that's correct about FS2004. It might have been printing on some kind of mesh but that's certainly not what the pilot was seeing. It was kind of a google overlay sort of view. I didn't know what I was looking at then but it wasn't 3D.

I have to say I am really enthused about this new sim. If I had to guess, I'd say that the 'world' aspect of it is referring to the ability of the player to walk around the world outside of the locomotive. The new animations, features and graphics look way better than I ever thought they could. I don't know why so many people seem to think they are getting ripped off because old stuff will no longer work. I feel as though DTG has taken a huge leap forward to create the best sim that they could and they were clear that it simply wasn't possible with ties to TS20xx. I see the complexity and the time involved in creating a new game, therefore I have no problems paying the cost of a new game. Also, with all of the extras on the locomotives, I don't see an issue in paying for a completely rebuilt model that is fully functional for the new sim. We have all paid the prices for the current locomotives that don't even come close to the detail and functionality of the locomotives we see in the TSW trailer.

I know many people don't care for the small animations but to me a simulator should try to replicate the real world as much as possible. Being able to get out of the locomotive to throw switches and act as a conducter while coupling cars makes the sim feel more like the real thing (which is what my interpretation of simulator is.) All of the new feautures and animations just add to the realism and that is a big selling point for me.

That's just my **!!2cents!!** !!howdy!!

That sounds as if it was possibly Photo-real scenery, which is exactly as you say; a 2d image laid on top of a 3d mesh.. I guarantee this scenery is 3d from any altitude. I helped create and test it..

However, from what ive been able to gleen, TSW isnt anything close to that 13 year old thing.. It has more in common with star citizen than it does fsx.. Which I owould be glad to show, but i cant post videos and a single image says absolutely nothing. I believe that TSW will be full 3D. Eveerything they have presented on it points in that direction and i'm quite excited about it..

It can't be $39 U.S. when it comes out.

I can safely say it is not the whole world with rails on it.

We are using the UE4 engine.

I can honestly say that I'm rather glad of that. True, it would be excruciatingly cool to have an entire world ( perhaps without tracks ), my own tastes tend towards the fantasy side; mere representations of an environment. While I enjoy and stand somewhat in awe of the realistic like representations of actual locations, I tend to find the silliness and pretend frame of mind such as a christmas train to be fun and rather charming..

If you use Windows 10 it has it's own video recorder software built in, no need to use 3rd party software like FRAPS. Make a video then upload to YouTube then post link here.

Where is this video recorder in Win 10. I have not seen it yet. Fraps used to be able to record the desktop stuff before win 10, but now it only works in full screen games. I can not create tutorial videos any more.

Thanks to a bit of internet digging, I learned that pressing the Windows Key + G activates this video recorder. A small control box pops up, from which recording can be started or stopped, but pressing Windows Key + Shift + R does the same thing. This recorder is really meant to work with X-Box games, which I do not use; but according to some sites, it should also work with any game playable in Windows. Since I'm currently analyzing some scenarios for a friend, I have TS running in a window (so I can Tab back and forth to Word, where I'm keeping my notes). So far, I have had no luck getting this recording tool to work within the TS window. Sooner or later, I'll probably try it with TS running full screen.

Of course it can't be. I would expect it to be the standard 60 or 70 bucks when it comes out. We've all been leaching off the free updates for how many years now? Eight? Buck up.

It is in the Xbox app. Right down the bottom of the apps menu. When you open it up click on the settings button down the bottom of the left hand side panel, and in the window that comes up click on the Game DVR tab, and that shows you the keyboard commands.

I'd like to try both the Windows 10 DVR feature and OBS Studio and see how well they work. FRAPS and Bandicam seem to be CPU based and caused serious frame rate issues on my laptops when recording. Nvidia's Shadowplay being a GPU based video capture, works great for me. But it only works in full screen mode as far as I know, so that OBS Studio might be great in borderless window mode. It says it's GPU based. So if it can match Shadowplay in performance, it will become my new capture software.

As for the TSW beta? TS2017 is basically a route bundle pack with no feature improvements or additions. Since I'm not really a fan of commuter routes, I'd be hard pressed to justify purchasing it at regular price in order to obtain the TSW beta when the full sim releases a mere 2 months later. Between paying the regular price for TS2017 or saving that money and using it towards purchasing TSW at it's launch, I'm definitely leaning heavily towards the latter. We will see.

So is it TS 2017 that will have multiplayer? Or TSW?
