Beats me why you folks don't just read and watch the material already issued by DTG instead of spinning the propellers on your beanies. Almost everything that you're speculating about has already been clarified.

I've been wondering that too. DTG told everyone clearly, a week ago, what is going on at Facebook, YouTube and their own Train Simulator home page, and yet all kinds of guessing is going on...
How many more, are going to come along making wild accusations about how their old stuff won't work anymore etc. !!jabber!!

Hey buzz456 will we be getting a new section for TSW like we did for TS 2014,2015 and 2016?

It looks good and it has multiplayer. That's great. But I'm all about the physics. They are claiming to have the goods in this department. I sure hope so. A new sim from scratch and no legacy game engine, content or scenarios to worry about breaking with retrofitted physics mods. So no excuses. Their credibility is on the line now with me. So best of luck to them! !!howdy!!

From watching the video, TSW looks to be an eye candy version of Run 8. Dovetail did not say if the community will be able to make modifications or create scenarios on TSW. I'm sure more information will appear as the release date gets closer. It like grandpa always said, " The only thing that is set in stone, is that things will change." Whether or not the change will be good, only time will tell.

On their facebook page, in the comments section they did say that players will be able to edit/add in the game. But the tool is not yet ready and so will be available later, i guess in the official release version or maybe even later. But they did say it will have that feature.

TSW is slated for beta testing starting in December. (Beta means pre-release, starting point, basic stuff if you aren't familiar wit the term.) DTG is asking people to take it out for a test run, let them know what's good and not so good. To spin wheels here speculating on something that's still three months from beta testing seems a little bit of a vain thing doesn't it?

I took part in beta tests of Microsoft Windows operating systems from Windows NT 4 thru what eventually became Windows 7 and I always enjoyed that. From the first rather crude beta to the final relase version a lot changed, but you usually got a good idea what they were trying to do along the way.

Let's see what it is when it's out there. Between now and then we'll probably hear more about TSW and get an idea where DTG is planning to go with it. I am looking forward to seeing it, running it, and trying out something new. *!greengrin!*

One thing I'm not clear on is the "world" aspect of this. As I understand it, Microsoft's Trainsim-X was supposed to be like FSX, an entire world with rails laid on it, with scenery enhancements able to be laid on top of the base scenery. Could we be looking at the same thing here? I know they specifically mention the Sandpatch "route" but in the world concept, that could easily just be an area of the world chosen to super detail.
Before anyone tells me to go watch the video, I did. But the comments by the DTG staff in this very topic have provided greater clarification for other areas and I'm asking if anyone has seen/heard such things elsewhere.

So are you saying if someone is going to build a route and he\she won't have to import terrain. The whole world will have terrain. Terrain takes quite a bit of space especially if the route is big, but the whole world being done. That will be terabytes of space there. I can't see that happening.

Flight simulators do it.

Flight simulators are only 2D until you get close to the ground normally.

That's what Train Simulator 2 was going to do before it got canned in 2009.
