Mine included 528 steps, mostly involving DirectX, Adobe Flash Player, Visual C+C+, and VC10 Runtime Libraries, over and over again: probably a series of modifications that had to occur in a specific sequence. This took about 2 hours. The update was clearly labeled TS on Steam. Version number afterward: v27.5a.

I deleted clientregistry.blob, then connected to Steam. No update fiasco for me. Worked great Eric. I have 27.5A also.

Version #27.5a was before 3/17/2013. That is my latest backup of TS with that date.

Followed Eric's advice. Exit Steam, delete "clientregistry.blob", restart PC, Steam comes up with that old "bootstrap" thing, I tell windows to shut down Steam, restart from the Desktop Icon, Steam does a short update and I'm back in business. No DX9, no .net, no C++. Did have 312 files to update, but I saw it was a loop like y'all have been saying, so I just stopped it. Nice job, Steam! !!*ok*!!

You guys are welcome.
I did get another update later, but it went normally, without the looping.

This is becoming more than annoying. Started RW this AM after deleting yhe blob again. Steam was online even though I had it set for offline. Checked a new route DL. This afternoon started RW again and found I was online with the blob. Deleted again and restarted steam off line. Found the blob again and onlie. RSC MUST correct this steam problem!!!!!

My version of the update took my Steam OFFLine. I had to switch it back ONline to get all my Collection tiles to show up again.

How are you thinking that's going to work then? **!!bang!!**

This is not a problem that RSC has caused, it was a bug in the Steam platform itself. And it has been fixed the same day -- if it is still happening then make sure your Steam program is up to date. Maybe you only got the update that had the bug but not the one that fixed it.

Cheers

I deleted the blobby thingy and update went off w/o a hitch. No big deal here. Thanks Eric.

@ jamesphh, this is what I did. Exit Steam. Delete the clientregistry.blob. Restart the PC, start Steam from the desktop icon, let Steam update itself (probably reinstalling the .blob) then all was fine. Not sure why yours is hanging up like that.

Finally staying offline ( so far). Checked steam client update and says it is up to date. So far so good, but RSC really needs to look elseware. There have been too many issue ever since they were hacked.
