Thanks for the help krellnut. I'm not sure if the sounds I'm copying are yours. I go to the gp-38-2 norfolk southern engine sound files and copy them to paste them into the new sd-40 independence engine so I'm not sure if I am doing all that is required to change the engine sounds. I did download your files for the GP-38 and installed the EXE files.

I know Wally will fix you up. But. you need to rename the gp38 sound.bin file "645E_R_Sound.bin" to "SD40 Engine Sound.bin". The SD40 needs to read the "SD40 Engine Sound.bin". If you rename the sound bin from the gp38 it will read it. You didn't even need to copy all the sounds over. The re named engine sound.bin will point to the original location.

My hole is getting deeper!
Tried that suggestion now my Norfolk Souther gp38 has almost no engine sounds *!sad!*
That was my favorite engine.
I better quit right now before I screw up more engines.
Thanks anyway to all of you.

If your GP38 is the RSC one from Steam, you can fix it easily by using the Verify local files option in the STeam client.

I don't see how you could break the GP38 sounds by following Xdriver's instructions above. You probably misread the instructions.

If you re named the 645E_R_Sound.bin in it's original folder, you screwed up. You want to copy the 645E_R_Sound.bin from the GP 38 folder and paste it into the SD40 folder then rename it. If you did re name it in it's own GP38 folder just re name it back to 645E_R_Sound.bin. !*don-know!*

Ok here is what I'm up to right now. The SD40-2 Independence is back to the original sound and horn.
All of my GP38'S are silent. The only sound I can hear are the wheel sounds and the horns work ok.
I went back to the gp38's folder from JCornel's gp-38 and put back the 645E_R_Sound.bin
I really have these engines all messed up. !**conf**!
I did a clear cache and did the files over in steam
maybe that's why my SD-40 is ok.

I have to stop trying to fix what's not broken.

Bob,
That's how we all learned......by messing things up. To get the GP38-2(Cornell) back to where you started from you'll need to install it again since it's not part of RSC. Rule number one in messing with these things. Back up the file before you start messing with it. The easiest way to do that is just put .xxx or .orig as a suffix and that will disable it but leave it in place so if the work from your fevered imagination doesn't work out it's just a matter of taking the suffix back off the file after taking your failed attempt out and WOLLA you are back in business.

I have done this perhaps a thousand times already. *!greengrin!*

I'm sorry but I have no idea.
I did download your file and used the installer EXE.
I don't know where it installed to?

I already had all of JCornels gp-38's so maybe they were your sound files.
I only know enough about computers to be dangerous, as you can see:)
Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for the tip buzz456 I thought about doing that but I did not know if I had to delete the files I have first or maybe it dosen't matter.
Also I'm not sure where I downloaded these engines from in the first place. I'm hoping they are here in RWA.

I have an external hard drive dedicated to saving copies of Railworks downloads. It has everything I've ever installed neatly arranged into folders and sub-folders. It certainly helps if I have to reinstall assets, scenarios, or routes.

I hope everything will work for you for the SD40 !!*ok*!!

Don't give up, keep trying. I had problems too, now I got the hang of it. I never gave up.

I absolutely cannot emphasize enough about making copies and back ups. It just saves hours of frustration. I agree one hundred percent with Harry and do the same only delete the word neatly from my system. I'm still waiting for Harry to come over and get mine "neatly".

I created folders for: Diesel Locomotives, Steam Locomotives, Electric Locomotives, Freight Cars, Passenger Cars, MOW, Routes, Scenarios, and Utilities. The locomotive and car folders are sorted by roadname. Route and scenario folders are sorted by routes. Utilities has only a RW Tools folder. Hope that helps.

Harry

P.S. I also have a New folder that holds items until I can sort them.

I already have mine neatly, so there's no point of having to many diesels repaints. I just want to focus on 1 diesel and 1 steam. That's all.
