I like the new website, but I think it needs a "Newest Files" section so we don't have to wander through each section.

Love the flag. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if the entire site background image was Old Glory waving in the wind!

!*cheers*!

My feelings weren't hurt. It doesn't go that deep. Just wanted old glory to give up a little room for a choo choo or two in the banner......that's all. !*salute*!

Based on some comments in this thread, I wasn't alone in my thoughts. *!!wink!!*

Anyways.... I think function is more important then the looks and it functions very well. Can't wait for the day sound gets it's very own section..... then my life's journey is complete! !*roll-laugh*!

Although there are 2 things that I would have done differently imho and these things are 1. there is too much white everywhere, I would have had this changed at least to another color that doesn't blind me when I open up the page at 5am !*roll-laugh*! 2. it would have been nice for the little weather thing at the bottom of the page to be set for the viewer kinda like how the time is? (ie if its sunny where you are show it for you but if its raining where I am show that its raining here for me if ya know what I mean)

all in all I do like it! !!*ok*!!

(as far as I can tell is that there is only 1 US flag on the front page so I don't see what the big deal is? it would be different If it was used everywhere....but imho I would have 1/2 the flag solid color on the left and the other half fading into a very nice screenshot from RW of a loco or something?)

Yes 1 flag in the banner and another in the site annoucement which will scroll off in a week or so.

I have gotten an offer from one of our Payware people who will donate a few things for just such a purpose as having a screenshot contest. So yes we can do a few contests and other things. If someone thnks they can produce a better banner for the home page, I am open for anything. I through the banner together in about 7 minutes. Just trying to get things done. All in all I have less than a week on the site.

I am planning on doing somethng with the background color. It is too white for me as well, but I have to dig into the CCS files to do that and I have not been there before.

The little weather thingy is just filler, we had one that would show YOUR weather but it kept crashing. Lots of goodies out there for Joomla so I may find another one.

The site is not complete nor final yet. It is still a WIP. My main concern at this time is getting the library done. My helper should most likely have all the scenarios put in by the end of the week. We also have over 80 NERW scenarios to add to the library. The rest of the library is going to take some time. If I didn't have to work 10 hours a day it would be done by now. Only 6 more years until I can retire.

There is Harry, one on the home page and one on each download section. On the main library file it list the 14 newest files from ALL categories and each individual sections show the newest 5 of that category. If you can explain in more detail, we can do just about anything to the site.

Well, being one of your many British visitors, I have no complaints/issues about the flag at all, it's your website, and you're in America, unsure what the problem is, it's nothing that's in yer face and distracting you from looking around the site.

I'm surprised after all these years that we don't have a Railworks Canada site by now, I thought there was enough of you Canuck Railsimmers to get one up and running....... *!greengrin!*

Anyway, this new site is different, I can almost smell the paint, I love the screenshot scrolling page, very welcoming and a nice advertisement to any visitors from around the world looking in. The various sections seem to be set out OK, everything is in the right place for searching through, it's easy to read and no flashy colours, or, anything, so, can only say congratulations and thanks to Bob and the others for setting this page up, it'll take a few days for everyone to get used to everything new, but, you're off to a great start chaps, well done.

Overall I like the new site. Nice work, Bob!

As someone mentioned before, there's a bit of imbalance in regards to the layout of the slide show and banner, as well as the news/cloud column area below it. My preferences would be to align to the banner by adding a buffer around the slide show, and then set the columns below it to align with the slide show and "Latest News" column. A buffer above the RWA banner is also needed, as it now appears "cut off" from the rest of the page. I would not change the background color nor change any other parts of the site, however, except for the suggestions I've outlined above. Too many tweaks may clutter an already clean-looking web page. :D
Cheers!

If you go from the top of the forum here and click on the file library it will take you to the old library where the older stuff resides. These items will be transferred it's just not finished yet so that is the best way to get to them right now.

Remember too, all that is on the original site is the rolling stock and scenarios. Routes, models and Miscelleaneous are on the new site.

It is a tedious job as I am trying to keep all the original post dates and download counts and other info. So far so good, but slow.
