harryadkins wrote:I'm having the same problem. Can't count the number of times I've verified the integrity and restarted this week with NO SUCCESS. Still getting the error "Can't initialize PhysX" no matter how many times I've re-installed the PhysX driver. I've tried EVERY possible solution on all the TS2012 forums and many, many more on other gaming forums. At this point I'm WAY BEYOND FRUSTRATED !*hp*! I have purchased almost all the US DLC and cannot run the same game that ran just fine before the update. Let's be honest, we have NEVER seen this many bugs in ANY software. It's almost as if they did NO BETA TESTING at all. What's more, I have yet to see a response from RSC on this forum, their Facebook page, or from my many emails. From what I read here and on the other forums, about 50% of us cannot run the game at all or the game has too many bugs to run for more than just a few minutes. I have been a staunch supporter of RSC up until this point, but I have lost my respect for this team. Don't worry, I'm not going to be a trouble-maker, but this is ridiculous. We should not spend more time fixing the simulation than we do running it. Seriously looking at Trainz at this point. At least it works...

I am not sure if this gives you a clue but my PhyX version (as per the Nvidia Control Panel) is 09.10.0514 and I have no issues. The only question is I am not sure where it was installed from, as I notice the version on the Nivida site is 9.10.0513. Running GTX460s in SLI.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tori pointed out a posting on UKTrainSim regarding my "unable to initialize physx" problem. The conclusion from that posting was that the latest version of PhysX was incompatible with his AMD Athelon processor (like mine). I removed the current version of PhysX from my computer and installed an earlier version from the Nvidia website. No cigar...I still have the PhysX problem.

Did you try the same version I have?

What is your processor? make and model? I had a Phenom X4 and X6 and any game using PhsyX worked fine. Now on i-5 2500K and no issues.

What video card/s do you have installed? If Nvidia, I have seen problems when mixing certain versions of the video card driver with the version of PhysX you have installed. There seems to be some issues, but nothing detailed to explain it.

Did you un-install PhysX first before installing a new version.I am not sure how you uninstall your drivers, but consider trying Driver Sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/. Follow the instructions on use, including running the program in safe mode.

Here is the PhysX download page at Guru3D. It has many versions of PhysX and some tools. May be worth checking.

Here is another idea, but you need to know what you are doing!!!. It seems that keys related to PhsyX can be left in the Windows Registry even on un-installing PhysX. The second post here may help you http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic ... x/429133/2. BE WARNED THAT PLAYING AROUND IN THE WINDOWS REGISTRY CAN BREAK YOUR WINDOWS. If you know what you are doing, after you un-install PhysX, you can search the registry for any PhysX keys prior to re-installing PhysX.

What operating system is installed?

Also in the 'Set SLI and PhysX Configuration' screen of the 'Nvidia Control Panel' do you have 'PhysX Settings' set to 'Auto-select'? It should be.

Grasping at straws I know, but you never know :)

When I go to the bioware link you posted, all I get is this, no matter how many time I click on Choose Language.

Even if I go to this link http://www.bioware.com/ and click on the Bioware Social Network link in the Community tab I get the same thing.
Could you possibly quote the text in the second post you're referring to?

I did totally un-install PhysX and used Driver Sweeper to clear out one leftover registry entry. My processor is an AMD Athelon and I have an ATI Radeon 9600 video card. Since my video card is ATI, I don't have the Nvidia Control Center and there doesn't seem to be any similar "Auto Select" PhysX settings in the ATI Catalyst Control Center. BTW, I also updated my ATI video drivers to the latest version.

Thanks for your help.

Weird.

Here is a copy of the post. It involves PhysX and Dragon Age, I just checked my PhysX/Windows 7 installation and see 'AGEIA' information in the Windows Registry, so it seems relevant. Ageia invented PhysX and sold it to Nvidia.

I had the same issue. I worked with EA support for a week or so until they came up with a solution. Here are the instructions they gave me.
Be warned, the instructions ask you to go into the registry editor. You can REALLY mess up your system if you make a mistake. Also, make a backup
of your registry befor you start.

First click on Start button and right above that type in " regedit " then click enter. This should open up the Registry Editor.

Once done you will click on the sign next to HKEY Local Machine to expand it then you will click on the sign next to Software to expand it.

Finally you will want to click on AGEIA Technologies and on the right hand side you should see Physx Version. Right click on that and select
permissions.

Click the Advanced button.

Go on the Owner tab. Select the user name that the current system is logged on, check “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects” and click OK.

Now you should be back at the Permissions window again. In Windows Vista, select the group that the
currently logged on user belong to and check Full Control for Allow. Click OK.

I assume that at this point, you can delete the key to remove all traces of PhysX. Personally, I assume that as I log on as a administrator in the first place, I could delete the offending key in the first place, but I decided I would not experiment with my Windows Registry just to find out.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks, but that's probably not much help for an XP system when I run as administrator by default.

Hawk,

It still may be relevant as I have see similar issues in XP and other software/drivers where the uninstall does not clean everything out from the registry. the early Nivdia drivers, etc. were famous for that on XP.

it is more a case of searching the registry for any keys, etc. that may have been left after uninstall before a reinstall of things like PhysX. third-party tools do not catch everything.

It may come in handy, but for uninstalling drivers, I use Driver Sweeper, plus I also use a utility called CCleaner which does a pretty good job of cleaning out any useless registry entries.
But with that info I can go into the registry to see if there is any residue (I'm comfortable working in the registry).

I must say I'm quite surprised at how well TS2012 works on my old rig.

I fired up the Transcontinental scenario on the Castle Rock to check the FPS. With the default low settings set by, I assume Railworks from checking my hardware, I got about 37 as soon as the scenario started, without me doing anything. No camera change or anything.

I then bumped up the settings to the max (at least as maxed as the game would let me). My FPS only dropped by about 10.

The sim wouldn't let me change to High or Custom in the screen below.

Even when running the scenario, when the FPS dropped to 14, I was not getting near as bad stuttering as with RW2.
Interestingly enough, when I unchecked procedural flora my frame rates dropped about 4. !*don-know!*

hawk, i think you can't go into the high or custom settings in a 32 bit system, or you just need tsx turned on. try turning it on and see what happens. if not, i recomend upgrading your OS to current specs (windows7 64 bit) (if the money permits you to do so)
