I think it's also worth pointing out that the situation with US content and with UK content is quite different.
The old US content is in an .ap file (RailsimulatorUSAssets.ap) and so, as Buzz says, modifications that are outside the .ap file are "protected from a file verify.
The old UK content is not in an .ap file and so modifications to it are more likely to be removed by a file verify.
The intent of my original post was to point out that trev123's advice to run a file verify could cause problems for some people and that it wasn't a magic solution for everyone..
