I had seen the effect mainly on grilles, engine and freight cars but what it was called, new to me but now forever more stored in the database looking for an excuse to show my extended vocabulary ( and my wife thinks this is not educational).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlJGrIyt-X8 ..sorry, couldn't resist. *!greengrin!*

But seriously, I just purchased the Aerotrain recently, and the moire patterns are terrible on that one. When I get some time, I'll see about re-doing or omitting the grill textures. Although not prototypical, I'd rather see it without the moire patterns. The Amtrak E-8 is another one, which is why I applaud Buzz for doing the early versions (E-7) without the moire-inducing grill-work.

Have a look at some of the old black and white movies ex Hollywood - you often see Moire effects on the suits of the actors.
Back in the day I tried to make a microscope just using moire effects on a flat sheet of plastic - it was only half successful!

Regarding the suggested RW Tools feature and Scalerail, there is no way on Earth that I will use anything but my own track lofts for custom routes. Scalerail is not bad, but does not have a variety of rail sizes and gauges that are suitable for Australian routes.

This Scalerail proposal would be exaggerating the meaning of standard gauge significantly!
