I believe using VPN kind of solutions doesn't work with Steam. They keep track of your location and will detect if you've suddenly moved to a different continent in order to buy geo restricted content.

Retailers like Amazon etc that sell Steam keys might be less strict. Wether activation of Steam keys is geo checked, I don't know?

Couldn't you get around that by setting up a new account at Steam?

Or every time I go out of town they ask me to verify it's me because I haven't been on that browser and they send me a e-mail code to enter to use the access on that computer since I have my Steam stuff on two pc's in different locations plus my gaming laptop. I have never tried it when I was out of the Country.

Interesting articles. But another question is, would I potentially be breaking the law by using this workaround?

I'm not sure I really want to go to this extent for the novelty of obtaining a BNSF payware route.

Who's law. This whole thing is silly anyway. You can get on line and D/L a BNSF logo any time you want and as long as the picture doesn't say it belongs to someone you are breaking no law or rule.

The cost of the route is pretty high too. Some websites want $50 or more for it. I'm not hugely interested in it, and it's not a route I've been anticipating for ages (like a TS version of the Central Australia Railway).

Just the small novelty of having it like with the Marias Pass route in my library that I almost never drive along.

I agree that this whole business of BNSF's trademark not being available outside the US is silly, but at the end of the day it is their trademark and they can do with it what they please. Still sucks but that's business. Trademark stuff is why it took so long to get any CSX content in Train Simulator and I suspect a big reason as to why we don't see more BNSF-related content in the store because the smart business idea is to create more content that's available for everyone to legally purchase (the last one was the ATSF SD45-2 by DTM and I know there was a lot of grumbling because an international version without the ATSF logo was not produced). Personally I'm surprised DTG and GNTX haven't gone back and produced international versions like what they did with the Chicago-Aurora route and the Clear Creek Narrow Gauge route by now because plenty of foreign players want to buy these routes. Is it a question of time? Of costs?

Remember, computer game studios need to recuperate their costs in the first two weeks of sales. After that, the numbers are down to a trickle. One can only hope for few game breaking bugs, as debugging costs money while there is no money made anymore.

DTM: I have a bone to pick with them over their QA as of late, but am completely guessing as to why they don't offer other road names, Clinchfield would have sold well when a matching heavy duty coal hauling route was available. Even SCL and EL, now we have native routes.

No, that wouldn't work, as your official Railworks license is bound to another account.

Of course there are hacks and workarounds, but I wouldn't want to go to so much trouble. DLC washes up on the shores of the bay sooner or later anyway
