I've only spent a few minutes on it but it looks great!

My compliments, madame, a triumph for you.

Now if Dick Cowan or Rick Grout will rise to the occasion and provide us with an H-8 we'll be 100% in business !*YAAA*!

My first run over the mountain was with a 2-8-4 Kanawa, 30 loaded coal cars, and a caboose. Actually, the 2-8-4 was NKP but it was still fun. My first impressions of the route are impressive and realistic. A friend of mine and I took a railfan trip to that part of the country about 10 years ago and the route looked a lot like my pictures. Congratulations on your good work. This route raises the bar for Railworks. Thanks for sharing it with the community.

I'm having big fun with this route, ye gods, how many hours went into creating it???

To get in the spirit, I created a cloned scenario, replacing the rolling stock in the free roam eastbound run with Dick Cowan's Mallet pulling 30 of his B&O external braced coal hoppers and a B&O caboose. Far from a realistic load but I wanted an easy one to get the hang of it.

One odd thing, there appears to be a fallen tree across the tracks a mile or two southwest of White Sulphur...hafta go back and see how solid it is...LOL

Man, I am loving hearing about your experiences. I think it's more fun than driving it myself. And the pics that you guys are sending in are just great!

LOL, that "log" is sure puzzliing.... I have no idea what the heck that is but I'll see if I can find out. ??Kinda looks like a telephone pole??

Btw, to answer one question.... my guess is "more than 2000 hours". I estimate another 200 hours to finish fleshing out all of the vegetation, a few more buildings and streams for this version (1). A wild guess is that the whole 85 mile division will take another year and a half to finish (though I am getting faster at this stuff, lol). Pete and I are working on our next plans already.

Nope, it looks like a fallen tree! Look at my pic, it's too asymmetrical to be a telephone pole, the end nearest my train has a bit that looks like the end of a large branch that'd been cut off almost at the trunk. Might be some transient artifact, but it sure looks like a tree, dangit... !*roll-laugh*!

When I was a child, they ran 6 GP7's on the front of around 140 cars.

Two H8 Allegheny 2-6-6-6's could drag 200 cars. I'm not sure if they used a third to push on the 13 mile .6% grade but I think they would be forced to put something on the rear of that many cars or the train would break, right? Actually, I've read that they tried a lot of things, including hauling up half a train to the top then come back for the other half. I think they tried the "one in the middle" setup too. Unfortunately, that was all before my time. Or... maybe I should say "fortunately". I've breathed enough coal dust as it is. At my house I found one-half inch of coal dust accumulated above a porch ceiling that came down after some water damage. I made the mistake of pulling down on a hanging board... a second later I looked like a miner!

Nice route and much nicer story! I took one of those ready-to-go hopper trains, really beautiful scenery. A bit empty at some places, but I guess you'll be updating stuff sooner or later. At least I hope so because your route more than deserves it. And I see you also included a few passenger stops, I hope to get some activity for them in the future. Freight ops is not really my thing.

Made a nice panorama shot for you:

I think the rest of the train is still behind the curve.

PS: funny thing you included so much of the german assets, only spotted a few of them ingame, but I already had most of them installed so I noticed. They seem to fit very good in in this route :)
