RSC special announcement at Gamescom?

Unread postby fecrails » Mon Aug 06, 2012 7:26 am

RSC has stated that they will make a special announcement at Gamescom August 15-17. On Fridays Fan Friday blog they featured multiplayer capability for RW as everyones top of list future features wanted . Why would they hype up something in their blog that they could not deliver on? My feeling is that the special announcement will be multiplayer capability with the next major release of RW. The timing of the announcement, say on August 15, would also steal a great deal of thunder from any other train sim events going on around that same time. *!twisted!*

Some people in these forums hate speculation or free thinking and will complain about it till the cows come home. All the more reason to do it! Pitch out your ideas and see who is closest to being correct come the 15th.

I'm throwing my bet behind either AI, Multiplayer, or Console Release. AI and MP would be very good. Console Release (without either of the first two, or leaving out the new version for PC) will result in Game Over Man, Game Over. And yes, an announcment of MP capability would put an interesting twist in things, but it wouldn't do much more than cause some arrogant comments to be floated around the TS boards.

My money is on either Multiplayer or console. However, if they announce either improved AI/signaling/dispatch or improved physics, then I will gladly buy all of their American DLC! C'mon RSC, give the core customer what they want!!

No reasonable software company would do that. You don't go to a show and make a special announcement to say you're going to fix bugs. You announce new developments.

LOL YES. If they announced "AI/signaling/dispatch or improved physics" I would buy ALL of their US DLC that I don't already own and all to come. We all know it's Multiplayer though.

Just let me have my delusions until the announcement. !*roll-laugh*!

Multiplayer would be my bet as well. Had lengthy conversations with Mr. Jackson directly since he thought VORA would be interested In MP. What VORA does in far beyond multiplayer in that we turn any sim into a working railroad. Just seeing another train is not a gigantic advantage since in the real world this happens far less than many game players think that it does.

An average run in our next session is 4 hours 30 minutes end to end on the the route we are using. The most any one train will see is 6 trains (out of 22 running) for a total of about 18-20 minutes out of all that time. The other 4 hours and 10 minutes is where VORA blows away MP by running a prototype railroad operation.

If RW has a visual aspect we will look to add it but TRS which has had it for a while now does not work in our sessions because it cannot support the number of trains needed to run a true prototype session. Servers bog down, refresh rates slow down as well and there are limitations which force players to upgrade software and hardware which they may find financially difficult to do.

Ready when you are, Paul.

Well, if they're going to have multiplayer, I'd imagine they'd have to release a new version of the game accordingly, TS2013 was banded about recently, I guess this will be the amazing, overhyped, better than sliced bread, announcement they're talking about. !*roll-laugh*!

It is a bit scary to see how enthusiastic some of those that comment on RSC's Facebook are about RW on consoles *!rolleyes!*

I honestly doubt it's going to be on console. Mainly because porting PC games to consoles is very hard, so it wouldn't really be worth it.

And conversely it is very easy, to add XBox gamepad functionality to an existing game. They were showing this off at \\Build (I could only attend via the web *!sad!* ).

Well a console port would force them to optimize their sim. It already brings fairly decent PCs nearly to their knees. And current consoles have much older hardware. Perhaps they are shooting for a release on next gen consoles?

If they do release a console version and want to keep the Steam workshop ability on the console, Microsoft is currently out of the running for both the current gen and next gen consoles.

If they do a console port, why would it be the same as the PC version? Adding console style pads is OK (and for someone who has played RW on my TV in the bedroom this will be a welcome feature), but its likely to be the same as the F4 hud, not recommend for use on the more advanced engines available in RW, ie 56XX, Br143 etc etc.

Looking forward to seeing more on the 15th, although Quick Play is something I really like and look forward to knowing more about it, what basically it can do. Will it only work on default routes/stock? Or can I select anything? Will it all end in SBH? Sure its something other sims have, however it has been missing...

Physics improvements? Hopefully, although if there are any they'd likely to be found buried in release notes...

Only two more days till they make their announcement. Since Porting to a console is pretty much out of the question, I'm going to say it's Multiplayer.
