Aren't those just links, Ed? Really? I allow those on my site. If they eat bandwidth then I'll stop them.

Umm, wait, you mean band usage and not storage? I get confused being an old fart. !**duh*!!

Ed, you deleted your post now I look really dumb with my post. Fine. No orange juice for you. !!bang!!

Sorry Chris. I just figured I'd think on it a while. That's why I deleted my post.
Personally I hate those black blotches in posts because I don't have Flash installed, and never will (I have no use for that security risk snooping garbage). Plus I find watching videos to be a bit boring so I disabled that feature.

Before I would even further consider it though I would have to be 100% convinced that they vids won't eat my bandwidth, even then I can't guarantee I'll do it.

AFAIK, it's still just a link to outside. Shouldn't use up any more bandwidth than a regular link, which is basically nothing.

You should try and figure out how to open a new window when someone clicks on a posted link. I hate having to use the back button once I click on a link, to get back to RWA's site. I have no clue how that works, it's not a FF thing. Josh would know.

I think there's a setting in the admin area to open a new window when a link is clicked.
I've actually thought about doing that, but then I get sidetracked and forget.
I'm off to look into that right now.

I am a phpbb forum admin myself and those youtube bbcodes do not take any additional bandwith.

Regarding opening links in a new tab please note these articles / threads:

http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/links-opening-new-windows/
http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/making-link-forum-links-open-in-new-windows/

I can not remember if it works on all links or just new links.

OK! It works on new posts, but it won't work on any post already made.

perhaps a new 'Video Forum' only. Make a new forum and only enable that one for video links and see how it get used and how you feel about it.

Well, even if I don't decide to allow embedded videos, at least now the links will open in a new tab instead of having to leave the forum and use the browser's back button to get back.

It's just the thing of having to see all those black blotches in all those posts that irks me. Let me think on it a little more.

You could consider doing a poll on who else will see those black blotches. I assume it will only be a very small percentage because the fast majority has a setup where they will see the actual video's

Actually, I was just thinking of that, but my guess is I'm the only person in the world that doesn't like Flash, and I'm also guessing that the poll would be unanimous for allowing the Flash BBCode. !*roll-laugh*!
I'm sure most folks aren't aware of the security and privacy issues involved with Flash, and Acrobat Reader, although I did recently read that Adobe has decided - finally - to institute a monthly patch set up for Flash, like Microsoft does for Windows. That would probably help alleviate the security issue, but there's still those pesky super cookies (LSO's) Flash uses.

You are not the only person who loathes Flash.
