The fantastic, futuristic shape of the GG1 is instantly recognisable to rail fans around the world, and it will soon be available for Train Simulator 2012!

The GG1 (so named because it ran on an articulated pair of 4-6-0 frames or ‘G’ frames) was built by General Electric in Altoona, PA and entered service with the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1935. The GG1 was a truly impressive locomotive, measuring over 79 feet long and weighing in at 475,000 pounds (215 metric tons), and capable of 100mph on lines such as the Northeast Corridor. 195 were built for the PRR, eventually passing into new ownership and continuing to work for Amtrak, Conrail and Penn Central with several remaining in preservation today. Complete with P70 passenger coaches, the fabulous GG1 will be available from December 8.

I am still trying to wrap my head around this, and the best I can think of is when I have two of the same N Scale engine and one is from Athearn and the other Atlas.

KC's GG1 is an awesome, fantastic locomotive. I wonder why RSC bothered. I'm sure there's is OK, but I'm not buying it. They could have made a rotary for Donner instead.

I seem to recall that there were at least two or three different GG1's for MSTS and I don't remember anyone over ther complaining. After all, RSC did send someone over here to study the remaining PRR equipment. And I still ahv't counted out a rotary plow.

Seeing how someone went to the RRoPA, wonder what G they measured and took phot's of. "Old Rivets" (the 1st GG1 ever built), or one of the later models. The RRoPA only has 3 of them.

Think I'll pass on this one. Not really an electric locomotive person and with one route to run it on will get boring fast. But that's my opinion.

RRMOPA only has two. Old Rivets and #4935 "Black Jack" which is known as the best preserved GG1 left. She is pristine everywhere.

Edit.. Forgot about the third sitting out in Harrisburg.

Is'nt this more like one is from Farish and the other from Hornby

I am familiar with Hornby (my Dad had one), but not Farish.

I don't have the GG1 from Britkits yet. I plan on getting it around the end of the year (when I see how much of my wallet survived).
