Seattle - What is complete and what isn't?

Unread postby styckx » Wed Oct 26, 2011 2:20 pm

Call this a facts gathering post...

Reading the readme

The Portion Modelled for you today is rouphly 22 miles from end to end. Seattle North to Kent, Wa, 18 miles has scenery. The remaining 4 miles is a trip to Kent, Wa where
The amtrak Kent station is operational, yet the town and trackside scenery is under construction. It was my intention to only go to Tukwila, Wa for this release
anyway.

Confusing to say the least.. I honestly can't find a part of the route that looks finished.. So I ask.. What is complete and isn't? I wouldn't care too much if a $13 donation wasn't require to "play the route the way it was meant to be played". As I don't build routes, the assets are meaningless to me except to play this route.

I'm finding a lot of errors and problems right around King Street alone.. I stopped playing after noticing all this stuff right off the bat.

4 lanes of highway yet opposing traffic every other lane?

Cruise ship

Move closer. No cruise ship

Badly overlapping roads that flicker on the seen/can't be seen dividing line.

Following the only track speed on the route, the 60mph trackspeed, none of the crossing gates finish their down cycle before the train reaches them.

Traffic disregards crossing gates.

Let me try to blunt the shock a bit.

Heh, this seems to trigger a bad memory when I traveled to Seattle for business once. *twitch*

That's one road, not overlap. I am seeing this on my route as well with ScaleRoads. It seems to be worse with the RW3 update. Elevating the road a bit helps, but then you need to do it for all the corners and crossing... I am still arm wrestling with this on my route.

Yup, I found this happening with SMMDigital on my route too (not update realated). But I will not part with them. They look and sounds the best, and most of the time behave for me. :D

If you look at the SMM Digital documentation he tells you how to adjust when the gates drop and go back up.

that cruise ship was fixed by the previous updates but the 7.1a update caused it disappear again. I dont knwo why. this route is WIP! meaning work in progress as it says in the readme. I am constantly adding things in and fixing things. bare with it please just like the soo, I eventually get everything in and perfect. you paid for the assets not the route. It is fully functional however in the meantime there are areas i am tinkering with including traffic and will all be sorted out in the end. as far as traffic running on both sides of roads i cannot help that for right now, because I plan on building the actual alaskan viaduct and replacing those roads. I spent hours trying to get the crossings to stop my traffic but they dont i dont know why, I know how to do it.

Its so easy it is to pick out the faults but people failed to make mention of the cool things in there that I spent countless hours doing like creating new traffic so now its not the same tiresome default cars running all over the place. Planes that land fly over and take off. Night lighting effects etc. LASTLY the speed limits are being worked on right now as I need to stick ot prototype. nobody should be flying through seattle doing 60! the speed limit through there will be 25-30mph and 55 on the mainline. Hang in there stycks

I also noted the flashing after the update. I'll be updating ScaleRoad to fix the z-buffer issue, as well as tweak a few things.
Cheers!

For what its worth, I spend a lot of time in Seattle these days and some of these shots look fantastic to me. I know just where they are for real.... Cool!

So a nice touch was the air liners coming in for landing. At first I only saw it through the fog. I was like "no way, is that a plane?" The airport itself is quite nice.

Ian, would you like us to start reporting bugs or is it just too early to start that?

you can report them I have a fix list already that inlcudes:

fixing switches(should i make them all manual High target?)(switches that dont appear is a game issue not route, if they are not there flyout of the area and come back in and the will appear, also if you hover your mouse over where you think they should be the switch pull icon still appears, I dont know why they do this sometimes)
adding in speed limits
Trying to fix that stupid cruise ship that dissappears.
Fix crossing gate times, and stopping traffic
Fixing the width of traffic on roads
Glowing assets are being fixed by their makers.

fixing the dreaded tukwila signalling which for some reason isnt working.
A head up the new scenario I gave out had a modified tracks.bin file and is the reason why the others may appear broken. if you re-instll the route they will get fixed and the new one may be broken.
I plan on fixing them all so that they can work together.
sounds for the planes which do not work for some reason!

All of these are beign addressed while im working on tacoma and its massive yard system.

Just a rule of thumb, but any turnouts connected to the main line (and yards with humps) should be automated because they are usually centrally controlled. Looking at my track charts for my area there were only a handful of spurs that were manual off the main.

I don't see any tracks, I reinstalled, still no tracks....
Edit: Did a fly-over of the route, I'm missing buildings, no custom cars except a Fed Ex truck largely covered in "missing texture" stamps, no roads in some areas, no bridges. Not putting the route down, it looks nice from the screens I've seen of it, I would just like to know why everything is gone even though I installed the route and the missing assets .rwp. I also have this issue with your Soo Line route, looks great in screens but I don't see anything hardly in game. Sorry, Harrison.

you need the donationware assets for the scenery upgrade that you see in everyone elses messages. my blog has all the details: eyein12.blogspot.com. 2nd you need scale rail from 3dtrains.com
