Cascade Game Foundry is still around

Apparently the gaming company that was formed out of the ashes of ACES Studio is still around, and if you go to their website, you see some.....interesting banners.

Soo, a hint of what they're working on, or just some random screenshots of computer generated trains?

Cascade Game Foundry™ (CGF) enables people of all ages and ability levels to explore the world from home, so they can drive a train through the Swiss Alps, dive on the Great Barrier Reef, paddle down the Nile, fly a plane through the Grand Canyon, hike the ruins of Machu Picchu, and thrill to many other kinds of reality-based adventure.

Hmm.....it'll be interesting to see what they got cooking, that's for sure. Not sure if I'll actually buy it or not.

Also, what is it with Train Simulators and BNSF? BNSF was the default in MSTS, it was one of the early DLCs in RailWorks, and apparently it's now going to be default in whatever CGF got going on. Does BNSF consider train simulators good PR or something?

Consider to read this thread on uktrainsim: http://ftp.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=107833

Personally, I don't think we'll get a trainsimulator from them anytime soon. Just look at their website: There is virtualy no information and that since 2009 (founding year).
Don't get excited about sth. that isn't there.

Let's see what the future will reveal.

Everything seems a little on the green side. Maybe it will be adjusted later on.

I agree, it has been too long for them to not release something about their product. I don't see a problem with the long development cycle, one of my favorite games had a development cycle of five years before it went live. (That game was The Matrix Online in case you were wondering.)

However, I do wonder how successful this "all in one" approach will be, With a dedicated Flight, Train, boat, or truck simulator, you can really pay attention to the important things like physics, rules and procedure of how things work because you're not spreading yourself so thin. With this "all in one" simulator, I just have to wonder how much of a simulator it'll be. I'd also wonder if they'll be bringing anything new to the table. The only thing I liked in those banners are the dynamic lighting/shadow, and hopefully RailWorks will have that (and a host of other stuff) when their new technical Update comes out.

It can go either way, maybe it'll be the best simulator evah!! or, it may come up a dollar short and a day late.

Eh I'm not too excited about the terrain TBH, it looks too fake for my taste.

I'm not too keen on what I see in the screenshots. It looks too much like a game that Sid Meier would put out.

Looking at those screenshots, comparing them to shots of MSTS II, throw in the ever-present BNSF as the RR representative, and the fact that the TSinsider website is now defunct after being up for such a long time, I have to wonder if there may be some MSTS II code in Cascade Game Foundries efforts? Maybe they bought the whole kit-n-caboodle from Microsoft?

Who knows. CGF has been all smoke and mirrors since the beginning. It's looks promising, but it's still vaporware.

Who knows, maybe they'll be the Duke Nukem Forever of the Train Sim world, it'll be in Development Cycle for 12 years and when it's finally released, it'll just seem vastly outdated, with bad game play, bad physics, and won't be able to live up to the hype, at all.

Paul, I hope what you mean is you're making the terrain mesh finer, to allow a greater level of detail in the terrain? Currently as you know it's pretty difficult to place a small stream that does not run even with the current grids. I'm also hoping you will be releasing the block assets tool soon, very very soon to aid in creating forests on hill sides *!lol!* Currently trying to create forest covered hills feels a little like this !!spank!! Just a little light hearted humor, please keep us updated and keep up the great work *!!thnx!!*

Regards,

Hi Rich, absolutely will try and keep people advised.

I saw some posts recently (I honestly cant remember where) when people were speculation we were late, had run into problems etc etc. I can tell you that we set the street date for this update over nine months ago when we started hireing the extra team members and working on it. An absolutely huge amount of work has been going on in that time and we havent slipped the date by one day so far.

Its still a way away, and we have gone a little dark on it recently, but thats just because we have our heads down and are running hard.

I cant wait till we announce...... as I said before this period of time is driving me nuts:-)

Paul, if I may ask, is the release date close enough (thinking months here, but not the end of this year) that route builders should consider holding off on adding terrain features? Or will the update allow route builders to revisit areas of their route to modify them with ease? I still have miles of track to lay, my list of repaints continues to grow, and I can easily hold off on adding terrain features (like streams and trees) if you give the nod.

BTW thanks to you and your team for all the hard work.
