Trouble with new route.

Unread postby trev123 » Sun May 24, 2020 3:29 pm

I have purchased a 3rd party UK route called Stainmore Valley from Steam Sounds Supreme and I have an issue with it that when it is installed TS won't start. I click on the TS icon on my taskbar and the small TS splash screen pops up and the spinning wheel mouse pointer spins a couple of times and that is it my computer has locked up. I restart my computer CTRL+ ALT+ DELETE. Now when I uninstall the route TS runs fine. I have tried with AV and firewall disabled looked for issue in the Windows reliability viewer with no issues. The route is quite big which comes in 5 parts ranging in size from about 800mb to just over 1gb. I have emailed the publisher and they said that I'm the only one that they have heard of with this problem. In all my 10 years of having TS this is the first time that it has happened to me. I know not many on here are interested in UK routes which is here. https://www.steamsoundssupreme.com/stai ... alley.html

No, as you cannot open it after the computer has frozen.

After installing the route, before running TS2020 run the route checker in TS-Tools and see what if any errors pop up.

AFAIK, there was a problem with some core description files being in .bin format instead of .xml, which neither TS2020 nor RW_Tools can read by default.

You should contact the publisher for an update.

I am getting the same problem but not on every loading, better in 64 bit than 32. Have today advised publisher.

Right after running TS Tools route checker, it came up with lots of missing texture files. I saved the report and emailed it to SSS and their reply was quote.

"Well, the installers are definitely not installing properly in that case.

Do you have any software installed on your computer to protect you while internet banking? There have been some problems with users who have software like this installed. You may need to disable it to get all 5 .exe files installed."

I don't have any internet banking software on my computer as it is all done online.

I shall attach the missing textures which there are quite a few.

You could try installing the 5 bits with Windows in "SAFE" mode that may fix the missing textures.
It might be worth a try to load TS including the Stainmore route via a "CLEAN BOOT" to see if it is a windows component causing the issue.

I tried a couple of things. I tried installing the whole route outside of steam then copy and paste it into TS but no joy. Uninstalled the route then started up in safe mode and installed the route and tried to run TS in safe mode but still, TS locked up at the first small splash screen.

Do you have any anti-virus software running? Any kind of software that protects in real time? Windows 10 has these built in to the operating system. You can temporarily disable them, re-download the Route/Installer. Then, right click on the installer and click "Run as Administrator". After that try to see if the textures are still missing. Also, Don't forget to turn back on the anti-virus stuff.

When in safe mode most things are not running just the bare essentials for Windows to work are running. Yes, I have already tried with my AV and Firewall turned off. Just a thought I wonder if my Assets folder is being made to big with this route? The 5 parts of this route are over 11 GB in size. I haven't heard back from the publishers yet whom I emailed 12 hrs ago.

Good point about the Assets folder the Content\Route folder for Stainmore is around 725MB so that means an extra 10GB+ in the Assets folder. Is it worth you temporarily moving/unticking some Assets to see if that helps?

Kev
Yours is much bigger than mine, I weigh in at 305Gb, 404,820 files, 45,450 folders. (Stainmore works OK)
It looks like you may overloaded the assets file a wee bit. :D
