New GEVO (ES44AC) sound pack!

Unread postby ATSF3814 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 7:25 pm

I just discovered that trainsim.com recently got a new GEVO sound pack in their file library and after trying it out, I gotta say this is a must have. Here's what's included:

-New K5HL Horn
-New Digi-Bell
-New air sounds
-New Compressor
-New Cab Sounds
-Close-up and Interior Sounds
-Far Sounds
-Horn Muffled on the Interior without EAX 5.0
-And Many More!

The only downside is you MUST own the Dash 9 pack for it to work, but I think most everyone here has it anyway.

The read-me was a little vague. With your help, could you walk me through the install?
Thank you.

Basically just take all the audio and proxyxml files that come in the pack and drop them in here:

(Hard drive you installed RW on):\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailVehicles\Diesel\ES44

Overwrite any files that it asks you about, clear your blueprint cache, and it should work.

Can someone make a video with these sounds? I'm a little reluctant to try it.

Sure I'll make one. I'll edit this post with the link when done.

Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYE4Hmu2Th8&hd=1

Sounds are pretty good. So much better then the original ones (I think just about anything is better then the original sounds.)

That is pretty good, thanks for the video. !!*ok*!!

I can see why it needs the Dash-9.

now that is the one that should be a mass update for everyone!
the route in the video, is it Tennessee pass? if so, it looks updated and would be nice to have updated if possible!

Yep it's Tennessee Pass. It's sort of my own update. Replaced track with ATSF scalerail, auto switches, and manual switchstands and planted some of those good looking trees recently added to the File Library (wish I had the time and patience to cover the whole route with them, maybe someday). !!*ok*!!
The time of day is late afternoon, so the colors really "pop" in the light.

Hello, my name is Aidan. I am the creator of this sound pack, and am thrilled to hear the reviews. Thanks for the comments, they really mean a lot to see them. I am actually also working on a new SD40-2 EMD 16-645E3 Sound Pack as well. I did notice that the video didn't have sounds from far away, which is what really makes this GEVO pack different. The sounds further away sound different than they do close up. Good video though none the less. Again thanks!

well i did find 1 problem that this pack has. it is the same with most of the locos in RW, the horn's draw distance is way too short. ex: i am 1/4 mile away and blasting the horn and it sounds like i am over 1 mile away!

Thanks for the heads up on this! I'm still really new to the sim. Have zero third party items, but would love to find "must haves" to improve the quality of the game. Is there a thread highlighting items you really need to download?

Besides the file library right here at RWA, here's a whole list of sites you should check out:

http://www.smmdigital.net/ - Free scenery objects for route builders. Also has the Norfolk Southern North Atlanta District route.
http://railworks.banal.net/downloads/downloads.html - Lots of free locomotive repaints
http://www.trainsim.com/forum.htm - Locomotive and rolling stock repaints, routes, scenery objects and more.
http://www.gtraxsims.com/ - Payware locomotives. Also has a freebies as well as the Portland Terminal route coming soon.
http://www.ironhorsehouse.co.uk/ - Payware UK locomotives. They also have and excellent 4-8-8-4 Big Boy.
http://armstrongpowerhouse.com/ - Payware enhancement packs. I highly recommend their Lighting Effects Enhancement Pack.
http://s1.zetaboards.com/DigiRails_Forums/index/ - TONS of free locomotive and rolling stock repaints.
http://www.uktrainsim.com/ - Obviously UK repaints but they have some US stuff as well, including a free GP15-1.
http://www.digitaltrainmodel.com/ - Payware locomotives.
http://www.dickyjim.com/railworks.html - If you love older US steam locomotives, this is for you. There are freebies, but it's mostly payware.
