An interesting question was asked of me...

Ulf, the gentleman who built the RS-11, was less than impressed with the sales of his engine. I believe it had to do with the liveries selected as much as anything else. It is a beautiful, well thought out model with only one or two minor errors. I think his sales will pick up some after the Demo, SP and NP repaints get posted.

In the course of our conversation, he asked what a good US diesel locomotive would be to model next. I put forth my personal choices; ANY UP turbine, the Alco PA/PB, and any of the Alco Century series. Interestingly enough, they all were Alco built.

Given a 1945 to 1985 time span (first and second gen diesels) what would be your choice? Please, a Wiki link or pictures for those who are less than fluent in english.

That is a shame - I own the T&D version (not the PRR Steam) mostly because of the repaints available. But it really is a nice model and fun to drive.

I'm completely biased because I've had SP on the brain lately and am building an SP route, but an SD45T-2 would be the unit I would be the most excited to have in the sim. Since only one railroad initially purchased them though, and there is only 4 liveries they appeared in, the sales for this unit would likely be very limited.

In lieu of that, any of the GE U-boats would be a great addition to the game. I can only guess that after making a U30C for example that it would be relatively simple to make other variants like the U33C, or U28C from it.

A personal favorite of mine is the RS18U owned by CN and CP. It could be used on the CMP route at golden Yard, and tons of shortlines use them.

I second the U boat idea. Our game has been too long without one of these nasty old beasts.

This is what I remember most about them as well as they sounded like they were coming apart any minute.

Forgive me for being honest and blunt, but, that's his fault for not doing enough research. My first immediate thought when I saw the locomotive was why is it in LeHigh Valley livery when we don't have an authentic route to play it on in our game, surely, a visit to wikipedia, or, another site, would have yielded that many of these were operated by railroads that we can realistically play on as we have the appropriate layouts available now, Southern Pacific, Pennslyvania, New York Central, New Haven, etc, etc. The vast majority of RS11's were operated by short line railroads, none of whom we have layouts for, well, not DLC on Steam anyway, and certainly very few, if any, freeware offerings.
If he had chosen another livery sales may have been far better, why hasn't he done any repaints himself, doesn't he have the time, the loco was released over a year ago, wasn't it? EDIT: In fact, it was released 2 YEARS ago, December 2012.
Just goes to show that these people know little about business in real life, they may be fantastic software designers, but, as typical 3rd party developers go within the game that we've had since day one, they don't think about sales..... !*don-know!*
Maybe if folks got their heads together these 3rd party creators could get lots of sales, we have lots of rolling stock content and locomotives repainted for Wisconsin, Milwaukee Road, Norfolk & Western, Chicago and North Western, Denver Rio Grande Western, Kansas City Southern, etc, etc, but, do we have authentic routes for them, no, after 7 years, we still don't have anything, don't people look to see what routes we have in the game and THEN create something everyone could utilise on them, it's not rocket science surely, and I'm surprised that the route makers haven't built anything yet for these layouts that used to be operated on by all and sundry, many fallen flag railroads would still generate interest amongst fans of American locomotives.....And Payware vendors would make more money if they put appropriate liveries on their locomotives to sell firstly, and do repaints later, the more the merrier, you don't need much to make money in this game, excellent software designer skills and common sense marketing.

We're also missing B units made out of Geeps and older locos/crashed ones.
Donner Pass and Sherman Hill have all kinds of loco possibilities. So do HSC and Marias/Steven's Pass'.
There's almost nothing to run on Cajon Pass, like older Santa Fe and S.P. stuff. Santa Fe had a wide variety of locos they ran including a lot of home brew types.

If a person has seen the reviews of this sim at Steam lately, that could be why sales are down...

Most of the reviews on Steam are so stupid they are not worth the time to read them.

I disagree, they are mostly to the point and name specific issues. I would have agreed with you a year ago, but most reviews seem logical now.

The game as a whole is getting terrible reviews, although individual stuff like Mike's steamers are getting great reviews.

I guess I stopped reading them before that because they were mostly bashers with underpowered machines griping about who knows what all. To me most of the complaints are about silly stuff that are not really relevant to the overall experience.

I agree. Look at the WIki for the RS-11 and you'll find NP had a lot of them, SP had a bunch. "The largest owner of RS-11s was Norfolk and Western Railway which purchased a total of 99 units (an additional 35 were added to the fleet after the merger with Nickel Plate Road)..." - from the WIki. We don't have a route for the NP or the N&W so the SP would be the only one that did.

Would someone who owns the steam version be willing to beta the repaint I just finished? (The demos) I do need to find out if there would be any issues. One only please.

Hey Mike, I would love to beta the repaints on the PRR steam version. I picked up the unit just for it. :D
