Simple question: Will I lose a saved scenario if.....

Unread postby LordMandragoras » Mon Apr 01, 2013 6:52 pm

Will I lose a saved scenario if I play anything else (a new route/train, quick-drive) other than clicking 'Resume' every time I launch the game? Or will it stay available as long as I don't Save my place in any other quickie game I may play inbetweentimes?

Don't worry. Each scenario is saved in its own folder.
Just find it in the game (select "Main menu", "Single Player", "Standard scenarios"), select it, click on "Go", answer "Yes" to "Resume".

The "Resume" option in the Main menu is just a shortcut for "Resume the last saved scenario".

Scenarios that have been completed successfully appear with a green check-mark and the failed scenarios sport that embarrassing red X; wouldn't it be nice if saved scenarios sported a similar mark? (Any corporate lurkers?)

Thank you gentlemen;

I had painstakingly assembled a mile-long train at Roseville Yard over an in-game night, pulled out after my imaginary highball (to give room for the equally imaginary next consists that needed building) and sat on the out-track for a real-time night to set out with the early dawn light. 9 locomotive units of 3 types (SD-40s, GP7s, and one Dash 9): four pullers, five pushers. A lovely dragon. and I've been running the whole length of Donner Pass over a week of days (in small installments). I originally only had the 4 headers and pulled out at dawn only to stall on the first hill, which meant reversing all the way back to Roseville to switcheroo 5 more units at the tail. The train is so immense it's very long even from the bird-cam far higher than you can hear the horn. I've free-cam'd trackside passby's more than once (from the lovely autumn meadows: this Sim is so dern good; the grasses by you sway softly. NOTHING like Trainz) with enough time to have a sandwich and brush my cowcatcher before hearing the tail engines coming by. I obviously invested alot into this scenario. That Donner Pass package is an incredible bargain, it's so immense.
But there's been a little Saddletanker Teakettle I've wanted to play around with and i've been afraid to lose the Big Mission. Thanks again; railfans seem to really make the nicest forums.

I'm just hoping your scenario is a standard one, not a freeroam (can we save those? I'm not sure).
You can rest more easily if you take a backup of your scenario folder first. This will also back up your savegame.
You can find the folder using tools such as RW-Tools.

Thank you Chacal;

oooh, i don't remember if it was a free roam. It sure seems like one, but I think it might be the 'Roseville Yard' switching scenario, that just got 'out of hand' in a HUGE way. Is the Tools command path easily accessible after launching the game? I'm nowhere near my game-computer right now.

By the way: I really love your tag quote. I hope to keep it in mind when I feel 'over the hill'. Starting to feel not too far away... !!jabber!!

Don't make the mistake I made: do a brake test first.
