Yes there is a free version.
There is also a higher-resolution payware version.

Any one actually, if a person uses the payware one and the user doesn't have it, but has the freeware version instead you will see the freeware track instead of the payware.

....That is, I think, I'm not sure....?

People use free or payware. Its only the resolution. The payware is highly detailed, works with both on any routes using scalerail. You shouldn't worry.

I think, personally, I bought the payware versions to help keep Marc afloat. He does such great work, it's amazing: http://www.3dtrains.com/ I don't do route building, but install his hi rez stuff, and every route you have will just pop!

Yes, I also have both versions, it was a bit of a moot point in the past, developers building routes that used the Payware version got a bit of stick from some members of the community, who financially couldn't afford to purchase the packs, for whatever reasons, so, it's more likely current route builders will probably utilise the freeware pack and let the end user decide whether to buy the higher resolution assets if so desired.
I'd certainly fly the flag for Mike's products, his contributions to our little game have been immense and you get value for money for the tracks, roads and vegetation packs that he's offered us over the years, worth every penny (or, cent) !!*ok*!!

Agreed. The payware version is worth it.
