Question about 3d crafter

Unread postby 5292nate » Mon Dec 10, 2012 4:27 pm

I'm over at "The Grade Crossing" blog reading about how to build a locomotive.
http://thegradecrossing.blogspot.com/20 ... tives.html
It says on the front page; "Before beginning, it is assumed that you have a basic knowledge of image editing programs, the 3DCanvas/Crafter modeling program, .ACE image file converters, the Railworks Asset Editor, and the World Editor in Railworks." I know about he world and asset editors but not the other items mentioned. Is there a way I can learn about, 3DCanvas/Crafter modeling program & .ACE image file converters?

Really would appreciate help.

Hello. I have just recently purchased 3D Crafter and am learning the "how to's" as well and I might be able to help you a little bit here. The .ACE is the file format that RW uses for the textures, you can download this converter on the RW site. I don't have the exact link handy right now. As for image editors, I would assume papaexpress mean Photoshop for something of that nature for texture file creation/editing. As for the 3D crafter part of it, I would suggest using the built in tutorials and just run down the list if you haven't done so already. I hope this helps and that I haven't given you any bad gouge. Like I said, I have been going through the pains of the learning curve myself. Look at the thread under the asset creation section, there is some really good advice that has helped me out in there.

On a side note, if you haven't done so already, I would try creating some simple scenery assets with only one texture applied before diving into creating a locomotive with multiple textures, animation and sound. Even if you are following a tutorial, I have found getting lost very easy still.
