RSC SD70 packs

Unread postby NickF » Thu Jul 12, 2012 9:36 am

Hopefully someone here can straighten me out.

I see a number of repaints and mods for the SD70 packs Vol 1, 2, and 3. Usually the readme files say these are available at Steam. I have both the SD70ACe and the SD70 vol 2 DLC. So what is the Vol 3 stuff, and where does it come from?

What am I missing?

There is no v.3 that I know of, Nick, unless it's from a third party. I have v.1 and v.2 and several repaints. Oh, maybe they mean the MAC?

EDIT: I see mention of a v.3 in other topics, but I have no idea where it is. I searched the Steam Store, it's not there, unless it's included in the v.2. Or it's a third party creation. !*don-know!*

Maybe Machinist or Krellnut can answer this.

@Nick, was a pain to me find on Steam DLC the packs and their correct names to put them in the SD70 10-Engine Pack's Readme, so I asked for Krellnut help.

What I can say is that I've bought:
a) the Vol. 2 a long time ago and got either Pack02 and Pack03 installed. It's name on Steam is SD70 Volume 2 Add-on, however in the content description is mentioned only the engines of Pack02. !*don-know!* I no longer recall, but the inclusion of Pack03 was (and looks like still is) a bonus for Vol.2 owners.
b) couple months ago the SD70ACe add-on which is the Pack01, due the pic of DRGW engine, however there is no description available of the content of this pack, the link on Steam is currently broken.

IIRC I never mentioned Vol. 3 or Vol.1 as for me they don't exist officially, I use to say Pack01, Pack02 and Pack03 once these are the folders name (products of the RSC provider folder).

Bottom line: on Steam DLC area there are only two "Volumes" or "itens" (?!?!) for SD70 available, however they hold all the 3 RSC SD70 packs. It's confused indeed. !*salute*!

Yes, it does.

The "SD70 Volume 2 Addon" includes both packs.
You can only see the two packs in the Asset list as "SD70Pack02" and "SD70Pack03", while the latter only includes the SD70Mac.

Thanks. When I looked in my RSC assets I saw folders for 1, 2, and 3, and wondered how I got 3, since I only bought 1 and 2.

That clarifies things.

Is the RW ACe an actual different model to the M-2?

The SD70 vol 2 pack says it comes with a SD70ACe. Is it the same one as the SD70ACe pack?

I'm thoroughly confused as to why there isn't only one SD70 pack with all variants in it.

Mmm, forgot there was an ACe in pack2, I presume it's the same other than a different livery? how many real ACe variants are there anyway?

In real life I have no minimal idea which is the difference between ACe and M-2. The cab in game is the same, though the exterior even of M-2 models are different (CN has headlights on nose, and NS on roof), the difference must be in traction.

SD70ACe Vol. 2 add-on comes with four engines of Pack02: SD70-2ACe (BNSF and BNSF Whisper) and SD70M-2 (CN and NS). If it is right, or wrong, I don't know and don't care.... *!!wink!!* and also, as explained above, with one engine of Pack03: SD70MAC BNSF.

The only true difference between an ACe and a M-2 is the type of traction they use, obviously the ACe's use AC traction while the M-2's use DC traction. the minor variations differ between railroads prefrences and are not specific to the model, and even vary between road numbers! (ex: CN SD70M-2's #8000-8024 have no DPU lights while the #8800's and higher have them, but all CN M-2's have the winter variations on them [snow covers over the rear air intake], while everybody else has it open, and another example is that some BNSF ACe's have a headlight while others have the nose light)

I am curious to see what the CN SD70ACe's that will be arriving later this year have for variations on them?
