Maybe I am not back

Unread postby mapitts » Tue Jun 05, 2012 5:51 am

2 days into it I got the blue screen of death. Called tech support and they walked me through reinstalling Windows 7. Nothing. Brought it back tho the store. Hard drive & possible mother board issues. They ordered a new tower. 2 more weeks. Uh oh already.

Well, at least since it's new, you are covered with a warranty. Down side is having reinstall Steam and RW again.

Don't mind the reinstalling thing. It just takes a while to do it. Now I am worried what I am getting into. I have heard a lot of positive things about the desktop versions of this computer, and not one good thing about the laptop / notebook versions. I have talked to a some people who have had the desktop version and they really liked them. They were computer literate. I guess I just worry too much about stuff that I do not know that much about. I have not owned a new to me computer in 7 or 8 years. I was hoping this would not happen. I am the most compter illterate human on the face of the earth.

I am hoping for the best. People buy stuff all of the time that has to be returned. Any thing from a computer to a weed eater to a car. Like I said before, my main problem is that I worry about things that I do not know much about. I have to just ask questions like I did on another post, listen to them and other people and make a decision. Hopefully I will get another one in the next couple of weeks and be back in the game so to speak. I did manage to get RW onto it and run for a couple of hours. With the TSX enabled, FPS locked at 30FPS, the computer did not balk at all. Did not have much chance to play with many other options. Ran it at max to see what would happen. None of the boxes like flora checked. Loaded super fast and no frame stutter at all. Detail and smoothness of operation were superb. 64 BIT graphics a huge leap forward from 32. Next morning BOOM. Blue screen. Not a RW issue at all. Better now than in 2 years. I read all the reviews I could, but they are subjective at most to me. Most people want to right a bad review because of a bad experience they have had and the good ones never write a review at all. Hopefully it will all be good, and I can enjoy this simulation with the rest of you. My first try with this new system sure did make my mouth water. Thanks for listening.

I bought an AZZA iBuyPower 956SLCK. Know a guy who is a computer geek and he had the desk top that this one replaced. He said it was a good computer. Used it for years. The desktops, from what reviews I have been able to find, have good reviews. The laptops & notebooks do not. From what I have also gathered gaming computers are a little bit of a different breed than a standard PC. Maybe Hawk needs to start a new forum just for me. So your are stupid and do not know what to do! There is so much out there on gaming computers online that it is almost impossible for me to sort it all out. One very good thing about this website is the fact that there are a lot of people out there who are willing to help. You just have to gather your information, and pull the trigger. Like I said before, I am not going to let just one uh oh set me back just yet. I may be forced to give up n the end but, I am not at the Event Horizon yet by any means. RW is far superior to any other railroad sim out there IMHO. You also have to look at the fact that a lot of people who are computer literate having problems too. Granted that they are more than likely route building and modeling. I am just wanting to run trains, so I think I have an edge in that respect. Even though this may sound like a gripe fest, I am thankful that Hawk and so many others support this website and are willing to help.

Dell has owned Alienware since 2006, and yes - they have gone downhill, from what I've read.
