Annnnnnd, another dumb question..

Unread postby PamBrooker » Tue May 29, 2012 10:41 pm

For one reason or another i've retarted railworks about 8 or 9 times today, and each and every time, i get this message saying " Preparing to start railworks for the first time.".. and then it procedes to reinstall .net framework 4.0 on each consecutive time..
what may have caused this, i think, is that after they updated railworks to rw3 2012, the machine would freeze when i attempted to verify the cache. So, thinking it was the steam client, i uninstalled the client and re-installed it.. when i opened it up, it could not locate my installation of railworks and basically had nothing more in it than the few pieces ive picked up over the last couple years, from steam. So, thinking that my old railworks had been updated ( it was after all the only railworks on the machine ) i copied my old folder and pasted it over the new install ( yup, it completely re-installed railworks to a different disk and directory ).. and thats when all the trouble started..
Has anyone else seen anything like this??

HI Pam,
I believe if you are having trouble verifying the cache, you should go to your Steam folder and rename your ClientRegistry.blob to ClientRegistry.blob.bak, then restart steam. Steam should then rebuild your ClientRegistry.blob file. After Steam restarts you could once again try to verify your cache.

I had that problem. It's apparently due to having an updated version of NET Client 4 that is newer than the one installed with Steam/Railworks. You can safely click past the "Installing first time" warning.

Eventually mine stopped doing that, don't recall what had changed though.
