I tried the K4 on Portland Terminal last night and it gave me MAJOR lag issues, FPS would drop by 10 when looking at the locomotive. All other stock seems to run fine. I have no trouble running 3 or even 4 k4s in a line on a route like HSC. Even the WCML handles the K4 just fine(I know K4 accross the pond on WCML is not prototypical, but I like it anyway)

I sure wish whoever saved me with the changes in settings to video card would chime in here. This might solve a bunch of problems....Chris or Kali????

I just put the settings on High in both control panels, TSX on, bloom off, LOD off. Game ran decent (it won't run at all right now because of this stupid Nvidia driver issue !*not-ok*! )

Chris: what is this "stupid Nvidia Driver Issue" of which you speak *!question!*

Not sure, still just grasping at straws as at present, even with RSC ticked as an asset provider in the flyout, the K4's don't appear in the list of rollingstock. I have downloaded the latest version, so now running 11.0b. (which means I have now updated RW 6 times and the K4 pack alone about 7) One thing I have found today, just sitting opening and inspecting each folder and file in the pack, is that in both the engine and tender folders, there are 2 engine and tender .bin files. I have looked at all of the other locos, and they each only have 1 .bin file in their engine & tender folders. I am wondering whether the program cant decide which one it actually needs to use and is just saying "Nope, not today". Wont know for certain till I can get home and open the files, compare and quarantine one of them and see what happens. Why there would be 2 bin files in each of the folders is a mystery to me and why nobody else on the planet Earth seems to be having an issue... !*don-know!*

As far as the two bin files. One is for static display for what I can see. Engine.bin you drive and K4_Engine.bin you don't. I made a few mods with these and the only one that effects the drivin one is Engine.bin.
If you open the K4_Engine.bin with rw tools it says right here. <English d:type="cDeltaString">K4 Static Locomotive</English>
I wish I could help you out, but I just don't know. Set your vid card to default setting and application controlled where you can. !*don-know!*

Finally cooled off from previous Rant in this thread. Sorry about that. **!!bow!!**

Ran the Steam "Verify Cache" which downloaded some missing files that fixed the serious problems. *!!thnx!!* Haven't run into any other deal-breakers.

All is well that ends up helping!

Just keeps getting stranger. !*don-know!*

Had a look at the two .bin files - thought it too good to be true and for once, was right. As mentioned, one is for a static loco and has no bearing on the issue at all. Spat the dummy on Saturday and uninstalled all of the non RSC DLC to see if there was something in conflict. The outcome was there was no change and now I need to reinstall it all. *!sad!* RSC support haven't been able to point in any direction either.

The only variable in all of this is the home pc Vs the pc I downloaded it to. Because there is no viable net connection at home, I have RW installed on my office pc and I just update or purchase as required and then copy the steamapps folder to an external drive, take it home and copy it into the version there - to date there has been no issue. Updated as necessary, bought routes and DLC. The variable is that the office pc is running Win XP 32 and the home one is Win 7 Professional 64. The crazy thing is I fired up the office pc this morning and after an eternity managed to get RW to start up and lo and behold, the K4's are there in the asset list and can be added to a scenario, yet at home, they are not even in the asset list. The only difference is the two operating systems. This is the first DLC I have bought since I bought the new Win 7 pc for home. Is there somewhere that tells the DLC what o/s to expect? Seems far fetched, but that is the only variable between the two pc's. **!!bang!!**

It is not so much the money, but it just means the end of the hobby, because I just cant keep buying DLC on the odd chance it might work when I get it home

!*cheers*!

You can't port over some download content from another install to a PC that's not hooked up to steam. In other words. A copied install that is not connected to steam will prevent some assets from working. A license thing.

Give that man a cigar :D

After a week + of mails backwards and forwards to RS Support (and no definitive resolution) it was suggested to contact Steam support, which I did, but anybody that has done this knows never to rely on getting a reply. Took the bull by the horns and took my home pc to the guys that supplied it and for a nominal minimum labour fee of $79 they hooked it up to the net, deleted the K4 folder, verified cache and reaxquired the missing files and voila, she works!! *!greengrin!*

It seems as XDriver posted, some DLC needs to be authenticated on the pc it is going to run on, irrespective if you have a purchase license or not. Made for some expensive DLC - $100 and I certainly dont want to be having to do it after every update or purchase.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I am off to install the K4 ex-works clean skin and write a scenerio...

*!!thnx!!* & !*cheers*!
