Confused about RSC's Canadian National SD40 WideNose Add-on

Unread postby Chacal » Sun Dec 18, 2011 8:28 pm

This is a great engine, but I'm confused about the included scenarios.

Several of them are included for the Barstow - San Bernardino and the Castle Rock routes, which are located in California and in Colorado, not exactly CN territory I think. Is it realistic to use this engine on those routes?

Even more mysteriously, most Barstow [Widenose] scenarios in my installation do not have a widenose in them, just the "Def2" or UP SD40-2 . What could have happened to those scenarios? And should I correct them if a CN engine is out of place on those routes?

Railroads often use foreign power, not so unrealistic. NS and CSX locomotives can be seen on trains out west, the opposite with UP and BNSF.

Oh heck, here CN, CP, and UP all host NS trains. Coal on the CN was always contracted to UP or BNSF. CP runs all sorts of stuff from NS, CSX, and UP, tons of leased power, and SOO/DME/ICE and other stuff from railroads they bought out. CN out west, perhaps not as likely, but it could happen.

There are times we have east coast visitors out here in the bay area here in California.

At the time this addon came out there were no default or Steam payware Canadian routes available (there are still no real ones to be honest).

So what can RSC do?
- Release the dlc without a single scenario for one of the default routes and thus expose to the constant complaints of customer that aren't able to create a simple freeroam or scenario on any route?
- Or include some scenarios for the default routes so that one can at least drive the newly bought loco even though it's unrealistic?

Well, I think you can answer that yourself.

If I recall it correctly these scenarios either have the Widenose as AI loco or they use the new set of freightcars that came together with the Widenose dlc.

I hope this answers your questions. !*salute*!

Didn't this one come with Fort Kent to Eagle Lake? Or was that a Dash 2? I know it was a CN.

That was the other CN pack, iirc - the just-repaints one.

Yes, the Steam version of Ft. Kent - Eagle Lake came with the CN Loco dlc (CN SD40-2 and ES44AC).
The SD40-2W has always been a separate addon.

Yes, I had thought of that. My questioning was more about should I still have them in those scenarios or move them to other routes. This is what I ended up doing, I have put wide-noses in most Fort Kent and Eagle Ridge scenarios, replacing other SD40s. I didn't bother to take them out of the default routes, as this will be overwritten by the next local files verification.

Ah! And there was light!
Thanks, I never thought about the cars.
