China QJ 7014 Cab Problem since RW3 Update.

Unread postby jpetersjr » Mon Nov 21, 2011 11:06 am

Ever since the update to Railworks 2012 the cab view for the 2-10-2 QJ 7014 steam locomotive has been busted. The update for some strange reason altered your view position and moved it to inside the firewall.

I'm wondering if anyone with experience with RWtools and the cab file blueprint would be able to make and release a fix for this. Of course, if anyone knew how to contact the author that would be even better. As of now I don't believe they know that it's even busted and possibly why I haven't seen a fix released for it.

The QJ is one of the best freeware steam locomotives in the game, and one of the most powerful as well. I don't want to see it die because of RW3. When it comes to freeware, I would believe all our freeware should be left intact since we don't have much yet anyways, especially when it comes to locomotives.

Here are some attached photo's of what it's doing.

As well, in the readme I believe it mentioned that the community could modify the file as needed and release without need of permission from the author. There's more info in the readme that comes with the item.

How long ago did this break? I ran one of the other Chinese steamers, which all use the QJ cab, about a month ago, and it worked fine. Or is this bug isolated to just the QJ?

It's just isolated to the QJ I believe. I tried uninstalling, re-downloading and reinstalling and same thing. This I have noticed has been busted since just after the update, I tried running it the day after that and it looked like this.

This is a common problem with steamers since TS2012. To fix it you need to move the cab camera backwards by editing the <cameraOffset> and <windowCameraOffset> values in the QJ Cab Camera bin file. Increasing their Z values from -6.4 to -8.4 seems about right.

What program do you need to edit these?

You can edit RW game files in RW Tools. It's well worth learning how to do this.

I'm not a expert bluepring editor and nor do I have RW Tools, at the moment couldn't afford to get it. I was just wondering if anyone here would be interested in trying to fix the cab view for the freeware QJ, to get it back on track. They could then upload the geo file here as a misk item.

Also, is there a different way to fix it, and how difficult is it?

Also, if I got RW Tools, how exactly could I fix it?
