DEM data for new route

Unread postby NDORFN » Mon Dec 05, 2011 2:53 am

I'd like to have a go at creating a fictional route using DEM data of mountainous terrain and cutting my own track through it. I did this in MSTS about 5 years ago and the result was awesome (and ALOT of fun finding the best route through the mountains). Does anyone know where I can find some high detail DEM data? Doesn't really matter where it is in the world as I'll Americanise it anyway.

DEM data for the United States can be found here:

http://seamless.usgs.gov/website/seamless/viewer.htm

One program which makes use of this data for TrainSimulator is ReDem:

I used both to get terrain data into TS for Panamint Crossing:

I did this under Railworks 2, and it will work under TS2012. It is possible TS2012 has streamlined this process.

Hope this helps! !*salute*!

The cost of ReDEM is minimal, like less than $20 and well worth it.

It only took me 4 clicks to find out how much ReDem is.
