Thanks John. Yeah I haven't messed with the editor at all. Just a base install of the route. I'll try the delete/reinstall if it's still slow when I get home.

Hello everyone:

As many of you know I have been working on some stuff for Mr. Garber's new route expansion for the Ohio Steel package.
I to have had low frame rates in the Dover yard area. Has anyone tried to run it with TSX off and with lowest settings. Things still move slow even with everything off. I wonder if it maybe something to do with the scalerail. I notice FPS drop quite a bit anytime more than two tracks can be seen. A contrast to the 35-40FPS in the Barstow yard with everything on full with TSX enabled. Look through all the threads regarding quality after the TS2012 update. So many different PC setups. Some very powerful machines struggle and some less powerful ones work fine. We need to always consider how much clutter we have on our machines. As we add more and more to the RW folder it gets quite large. That alone can make it harder for the PC to run. I wonder if it would help much to remove items from RW that we no longer use. Maybe we need a utility like MSTS had with Train Store. I must say that by cleaning up my RW folder I have gotten it to run quite well on an older machine. I get 30 FPS on the NEC with highest settings and TSX on. I can run HSC with most items on high and I get decent FPS except for times with lots of yard stock or AI.

Just keep playing with it and I am certain you will get decent results.

I'm really looking forwards to the upcoming release. Ohio Steel is one of my fav dlc (along with Fort Kent for all the CN fun). I haven't had much in the way of FPS drop on OS, at least not like NEC Updated and HSC, so it's pretty much business as usual, and I know the other routes will get worked on. Currently giving C&O-A some time as well (no drops there :) ).

Kind regards,
Dave

Well, I tried deleting the route and letting Steam reinstall it. Same result. In the yard, I can count the frames, that's how slow it is. A shame. I was really excited about this route. I guess I won't be getting OS2. If the FPS is going to drop in the mid-single digits in the yards, that's not playable, since the yard work is really sort of the point on this route (and in the scenarios). I get much better performance on HSC, and am locked at the 30 FPS limit on all the other routes, so it's something in this route that is slowing everything down to a crawl for me.

I don't know if it makes any difference at all, but I was wondering which versions of the 3DTrains scenery add-ons you using, the hi-res of the lo-res?

The other day I did a fly around (8 key) in the yard and I get frame rates at 14 through 18 but as soon as I move away from the tracks it shoots up to 29 (frame rate is locked at 30) I looked up at the sky and at the scenery and still have frame rates up at 29 but as soon as I move over the tracks with the tracks in view, the frame rates drop to 14. I have high res. tracks installed. This also was a problem when I had the low res tracks.
I only ask if everyone try this experiment like I listed above. Before I forget, I had my setting set to RW2 standards.
I have no complaints, the low frame rates in the yard are a bit painfull but manageable for me.
I have had Riches routes from the past both in MSTS and RW. I give Rich a bunch of credit for his work.

Ah, good question. The hi-res versions. I bought all the payware versions of scalerail, scaleroad and rural landscapes. But it doesn't seem to be any problem on my other routes that use Scalerail, such as the Bay of Quinte. I ran a scenario in BoQ last night after doing one in OS, and it was also in a yard with lots of tracks and I stayed locked at 30 fps all the way through it.

I don't believe the Ohio Steel - Dover division uses scale rail, but Rich has used a lot of Marc's other graphic enhancements. It would be interesting if Marc could comment on the possibilities of a loss of frame rate vs his hi-res. As a side note, I'm not using the hi-res and have no problem getting 35 - 40 FPS just about anywhere on the route.

You're killing me Duncan! :-) I SO want to be able to use this wonderful route (and its expansion), but mid-single digits in the yards just kills it. Are your specs similar to mine, Duncan?

I don't think so. I just built a brand new rig with a Intel Core i7-2600x 3.4 GHz processor, an Nvidia GTX570 video card, 8 GB of Corsair DDR3 ram, a Seagate Barracuda XT2000 hard drive and am running Windows 7 - 64 bit. I'm nearing retirement age and wanted something that shouldn't be obsolete until at least the middle of next week.

Not that far apart, actually, in the ways that matter. Your Sandy Bridge is more efficient than mine at the same clock speed, but I've got my i7 920 oc to 3.6 or 3.7 (I forget). And I've got a similar video card and fast ram, so performance shouldn't be as different as it seems to be.

Do you think it would be worth your time to download the lo-res versions of Marc's packs. Then go into the package mamager and delete the hi-res versions, install the low-res versions then see what kind of frame rates you get? I don't know it it will have any affect on the frame rates, but it might be interesting.

I'm pretty sure I started off with the low-res versions, but even if not, I've bought the hi-res versions, and use those in several other routes, and am not really willing to uninstall and reinstall the different versions each time I want to run Ohio Steel.

I'd really like to get a Rich route with it's wonderful prototypical scenarios that would work well on my system. I've looked hard at the Fort Kent-Eagle Lake route (which Rich says he will be updating on his site). Does that route run better than OS? Can I count on mid-20s or better all along it? If so, I'll get it instead and buy the extra scenarios for it.
