Mysterious Train

Unread postby jpetersjr » Fri Oct 14, 2011 11:05 pm

Hello.

Does anyone know what kind of train this thing is and where the real thing would have been from.

If I can figure out what it is I'm going to try to build the real version of it for Railworks.

This is a HO scale model I just got today, but if I can find what it is I'm going to look for reference photo's for it.

To be honest, that model looks like junk. I wouldn't recommend using it as the basis for a Railworks model.

Actually, that would be a C-Class.
Here is my HO Scale Proto 1000 Fairbanks-Morse Series C-Liner. It's from my first set, and has been collecting some dust.

The C-Class is B-B or B-A1A while the Erie is A1A-A1A. Also the nose is much shorter on the C-Liner.
They exist everywhere. You may not see them, but they're there. Awww yeeeaaaahhhh, 20% Cooler! /)

Here's what I have been looking for, that was enough information to find a photo of the real thing.

I have to try to get a diesel into the game before I try to get a steam locomotive into the game, so here's progress 1.

Now all I have to do is slice up a spear and shape it to become the hood, then shape a cyliner for the top. Adding the windows and doors later.

I used a tool made in sketchup to cut the block into the correct streamline shape for the lower body.

A little more progress on the model.

I used to have one of those old AHM C-Liners, and yes, it was one of the worst HO scale locomotives I ever had. !*not-ok*!

I hope you got that for free.... needs at least $50 of work just to make it look/run halfway decent. First thing I'd do would be strip off those badly applied PC decals.... But onto the 3D crafter model, looks good so far, we don't have any F-Ms in the game, hope all goes well!

Yes, I got the model for free, with a bunch of other trains and train cars. Unfortunately none of them are good enough to run with my two $200 dollar Bachman steam locomotives, but they do make a decent reference though.

And if I am able to finish the model it will be freeware. Not sure yet though how to fill out the blueprints though, but that will come later.

I wonder though, what company made the real B-A1A, I know General Electric made the F7's.

It gets tiring building scenery right after scenery and never advancing in skill, that's why I want to try to get a locomotive and train car into the game, then I can feel like I've completed something useful.

As mentioned above, the unit is from Fairbanks-Morse. And FWIW, EMD was the manufacturer of the F7 - not GE.
Cheers!
